CD changers, where did YOU put it?
I removed the a/c controls, and I'm changing over to a manual tranny. This leaves me with the option of making the center console any way that I want to. I don't want to have to pull over to change cd's. I would like to put the changer in the dash.
Where did you put it?

I put it in that rear side locking compartment. I found out that once i got the changer, i never switched CDs. If i get a new CD, i just put it in the indash player.

If you removed the a/c controls like you said then you should be able to fabricate a holder for the changer and the radio. The catch is if you can get it all to fit where the a/c controls and the head unit usually go. I gueuss you could also make that whole area wider with some fabrication but the catch is if you can make it look good in the process.

Stinger, what kind of changer do you have? For a while, Pioneer and some others made some changers that weren't horribly wide, but their depth would still make it prohibitive from being put into the center console. For a while I think alpine had one that was small enough to fit, but I haven't seen it in a few years. Most of the newer ones are shallow enough that you should be able to stand it up vertically in the center console storage area if you cut the floor out of it so that the changer can slide down to the transmission tunnel.

You know....I'm pretty embarrassed to say that my changer is sitting on the left rear floor, covered by a floor mat. A few months after I got my car, I snuck it down to the shop in the middle of the night and threw my system in there real quick...and I've had no time to make it better since then.
If I ever find the time, I want to mount it where the dashboard "glove compartment" is, that vinyl pocket there.
Behind that pocket is the ECM and the duct for the passenger A/C vent. There is probably enough extra wire to move the ECM out of the way a little bit, but reworking the A/C duct could be a challenge. I suppose you could always just cap off that duct and live with only 3 A/C vents.
Anyway, after you clear out all the stuff back there, you could remove the vinly pocket, cut out a hole in the plastic, and mount the changer flush. Then buy some Velcro and use it to put the pocket back in place.
It would look totally stock...then just un-Velcro the pocket and your changer is right there.

Jim, I don't have the changer yet. In an earlier post I asked if I could get any Kenwood changer to add to my old deck. Some one said that their connectors hadn't changed, just that the cd naming has been added, but there is suposed to be a switch that will allow me to use it. Or, my friend has a Sony, deck and changer, that I could buy. It's not an Explode, it's a couple of years old. The only reason that I would want this one, is that it has a TV input. So I would be able to hook up my Playstation. But I was going to get that one for my Elcamino.
Chris, I was thinking of doing that. That way I could just reach over and grab the card, then pop it back in, all while driving. Since I've dumped all a/c and heater components, why not loose the ducts? That one has a big hole in it anyway, because of the 4X6 plates.
BTW, both the Kenwood and Sony decks are tapes, not cds. I just don't want to keep buying more and more stuff, only to have it collect dust in my garage everytime I change something. And I can never sell anything. No one around here wants "obsolete" stuff. (Five minutes old)

I mounted a 12-disc JVC changer flush in the dash of an 84 305/5spd HO T/A I used to have. All I had to do was move the computer over a couple inches and make a block plate for the vent ducting that goes to the passenger side.Came out really nice.It was easily accessible to change cd's and looked really good.I put velcro on the back of the map pocket that used to be there and used it to cover the changer when the car was parked.
