*cringe* '99 Ford CD deck installation question
*cringe* '99 Ford CD deck installation question
Don't throw things yet, not my car...a friend of mine wants CD players for a '99 Taurus and '99 Mystique...and they have those stupid new Ford console tape decks...there's no way I could fit a deck in there...what are the options? He really doesn't want it in the trunk...where else could I stick it?

My only thought that he can so is:
get a cd deck with a remote and to teach himself how to use it with out looking at the display.
then put a cd changer in the back.
if u got a decent size glove box u can mount it in there
hope this helps a lil

I think they might have made a adapter for ford, i know my brother had a ford escort and he said he was going to put a eclipse in that spot with an adapotor, look around for that, later.

I have a 99 contour (same as mystique, but distributed under ford nameplate) and it has a standard 1 din sized radio. I didn't need any kind of adapters to put in my pioneer, I just put the din sleeve in the hole. The taurus does have that goofy *** oval radio though, don't know what to tell you there.. try and find a ford support board and maybe someone can help you, or ask your local car audio shop.

The Mystique has a standard DIN opening...any aftermarket deck will slide right in...it's a fifteen minute car. Maybe it's really an Escort or Tracer?
If the Taurus has manual climate controls (with 3 *****), there is an install kit available for $60. You have to swap some factory parts from the original ICP (Integrated Control Panel) to the new kit, and you have to run speaker and antenna wires all the way to the trunk. It takes some extra time, but it's pretty straightforward to do. And the kit comes with decent instructions.
If you have an Escort or Tracer, you put the kit together the same way as the Taurus, except you don't have to run any wires to the trunk.
If the Taurus has electronic climate controls (with all pushbuttons), there is no kit available for it.
If you do decide to add a CD changer to the factory Taurus radio, get a Pioneer or Sony, because they have three separate cables. You'll be able to make your power and antenna connections right in the trunk, saving lots of time. Then you only have to run the cable for the display/controller to the front of the car. You will also need two antenna adapters as well.
