Name some good 10" subs for me

I'm selling my 12W6 so I can gain a little space and lose a little weight in the car. I want the SPL and clarity of the 12W6, but the mounting depth of a 10W6. I can't think of any subwoofer brand I like except JL. Can anyone reccomend something as good or better? I'd like to switch to 2 tens, unless I can get the same or better SPL out of just 1 10" Right now I've got about 450 watts RMS to throw at whatever I get. I'm also trying to keep the cost reasonable (like under $300). -Thanks

450wattsRMS is alot of power for 1-10". The first ones that comes to mind is the L7's. Having the extra cone surface should help in the SPL area but their not cheap at $300.00 each. Ikesound has them for $180 each but they are dual 4ohm. I don't know if that might be a problem not knowing anything about the amp you're using.

The quaility and SPL of the JL subs is hard to beat. I belive that the Eclipse 88100 subs are under $300, if not give the Memphis Stuido subs a listen, they probubly don't have the SPL you're looking for though....so have you consitered or ever listened to Eclipse? Audiobahn ALUM subs offer good SQ and, as the rest of their subs, offer great SPL. Unfortunatly the quality of these subs may not be as good as Eclipses depending on who you ask. They are definatly worth a listen tho.

go with MA Audio... i love that company!! if i could marry it i would. i have two 10 inch MA Audio woofers and they kick ***! theyr 600W each and thats what i send to em. people come up to me and they think that because they have 12in subs theyr better than mine so we go out and have like a mini contest outside our school. my subs were the best sounding and loudest compared to every person in my school with a system. (well almost every person, this one kid is friggen rich and has like 2 $500 speakers with *** know what else in there w/ em.. the sound he has in his pimped out neon is amazing! my subs were super cheap too! i got mine for only $100 each. here is a web site w/ ma audio stuff.. unfortunatly they dont have the ones i have on there. the very top ones are the closest to mine, they look exactly the same too. http://www.maaudio.com/productcatalog.cfm?class=142
actually before i got 2. i originally had one of the exact same make, i went to the city so i took it out of my car (so no one would steal it). when i hooked it back up i accidentaly bridged it so i had 1,200W going to only one sub. it sounded awsome and lasted for 2 weeks of me pounding double of what it could handle into it but finally its time came.. i have it sitting in my room as a reminder to be more careful.

where i got mine is a place called "the car shop" located in ny (didnt catch where your from but thought id put it n-e ways) .. awsome place its web site is http://thecarshop-ny.com/Home/defaul...7%3A03%3A11+PM but i think they might still be working on their website not 100% sure

I got 2 10"MTX Thunder 6000's...I think they pound pretty good for 2 10's. Louder and Clearer bass than any of my friend's 10's. I made a sealed box for them and it gives a real tight punch.

Thanks for the info guys. I thought about Eclipse, but they look a little too expensive for a pair. I have a hard time trusting brands I don't know, even if you here it in a showroom that's no indication of how it will act in a car. The problem is I'm one of the only people I know with a "real" system, so it's hard to compare. I'll probably just try and find a good deal on 2 10W6's so I know what I'm getting.

As for the sub Theis, it's already sold along with the box and amp rack. Now I'll probably be selling my Phoenix Gold M100 so I can save up for a 5-channel.

i like alpine type-r's a lot. one of the best sq subs for the money (comperable to inifity perfects), but also have that extra "bump" if ya want it. I've got a single 12" DVC, and my car shakes. they dont need lots of power either. rms is 300 watts, but mines maybe seeing 275-300 and doing just fine

Hey

I have 1 MTX blue thunder (old skool) wiht a custom box in the back. This thing pounds hard!!!
Belive it!... I was very surpized by my MTX sub.. I have 2 other 10" jensen subs in a nice box with plexy glass and all carpet which dosent fit in my Camaro, but im making a custom box for them. But this is the story this 1 10"MTX blue thunder is great so far. Everyone can hear it and I got the system for free (cant complain) but it pounds nice and hard. So check out the MTX subs.. make sure they are the good MTX brands not the 50 dollar ones. And if you really want PUNCH.. so go for Rockford!
Stay away from Alpine subs and Pionner.. garbage

ok, someone just offended me. Alpine subs are junk?!?! I think you should rethink your answer there. Alpine Type-R subs are some of the best SQ subs you can find for under $200. i would gladly take my type r over an mtx or an rf. this sub is coperable to the infinity perfects ($250+) and some of JL's gear. have you heard these things? oh, and one more thing. you happen to mention you have 2 jensen subs and you're putting down Alpines??? i think someone needs to do their research and testing.....

Pretty much all the Subs you guys named are good Subs. But from his post he 450watts Rms. Sorry but the Alpine's, Kicker VR's, Infinity Perfects and most of the others that have been mentioned can't handle 450watts RMS.

Alpines are garbage
my friend spent a fortune on his system..
and when I say a FORTUNE.. I mean it.
He could of bought a mean ride for the price he payed for his system. And we looked around for a long time to find the BEST.
Rockford smokes Alpine.. no offense but its just the truth.
Kicker is also amazing
stick to the good names
we heard alpine.. they were cutting out and stuff it was garbage.
Ive heard good and ive heard bad about them..
To tell you the truth .. good or bad.. its all the same crap to me.

if you are only concerned with being loud, then by all means get rockford. yes, they are a great company and i have nothing bad to say about them (cept maybe their HUs, but another time). however, if you want crystal clear, transparent reproduction of sound, then alpine is very hard to beat. alpine is expensive because it is some of the most audiophile level car audio equipment. alpine equipment is not meant to be loud and boomy. and no, i'm not just going by what other people have said. i have heard alpine equipment first hand and have owned some of it. and yes, you can make a very nice system for less money. i know this because i am. i cannot afford to spend thousands on a system. but alpine is by no means garbage. you get what you pay for in the car audio business. alpine has put out awesome products for many years. and why did this have to turn into a company bashing contest? all i said was that the alpine type-r sub is a great sub that is hard to beat when it comes to bang for buck. like to hear ya say that about jensen....

For "MaD CrAzY SpL", get yer hands on 1 or 2 15 inch Rockford Power DVC's! I can agree with the Alpine fans out there, that through testing, Alpine would prolly come out alittle clearer, but as for HARD POUNDING LOUD LOW BASS, go with ROCKFORD! I have 1 15 inch Rockford Power DVC in the back of my IROC and it is F****N CRAZED! The only problem with these subs is that they need alot of power for maximum output... So prepare the dollaz before u go purchase! Seriously tho, for the small amount of clarity u lose, and for the AMAZING amount of BOOOM u gain, go for the ROCKFORDS! They will make u happy! Just my .02!

i guess the biggest question here is what exactly are you looking for, SQ, SPL, or both. rockford is the hard boomy bass. alpine is good clean bass with enough boom when ya want it. kicker is great, mtx is great. you get what you pay for.

I thought rockford was one of the best for SPL
thats why my friend bought that system.
Belive me, first hand (and my right hand) but this is the truth. Depending on your smaller speakers, 6x9`s .. that is very important about sound quality.

actually, outside of circuit city and best buy type stores, i dont think rockford is that great for spl. i dont think they are getting used very much anymore for competition. believe they've pretty much been lacking in the spl comps. but alpine IS still making it to the semi's and finals. so hmm.......
