Looking for ways to make a sub fit in the car without it being in the trunk well as I need at least a little bit of luggage space in the car.
My first thought was to make it go in the spare tire area, but then I'm cutting up my plastics back there (not a huge deal really) and it's a little tricky to make a .8cubic foot box fit... Not impossible but not simple either.
Has anyone made a box that is supported over top of the t-top storage space? Plan would be to allow for room for the glass to be stored under the box (box about an inch above the glass). Box would be mounted in a way that it hinges upwards so I can get the glass in and out. It wouldn't be difficult for me to make a supporting structure that is light weight and nice to look at either.
There is approx 10" or so before the top of the box would really interfere with vision out the back... I haven't had a rear view mirror in 7 years to worry about looking out the back. Can't see out the back window of my truck due to the cap either... Or out the back of the 5 tonne service truck I used to drive.
The car usually just gets driven to shows on nice weekends in the summer, so the well usually gets my detailing stuff put there to hide it, fold up chairs and the like.
First thing I think about is what happens in an accident? I'd worry about it flying forward at the occupants.
Have you considered pulling the rear seat cushions and putting something in the seat wells?

Unless he's also transporting samurai swords, ninja stars, and uncapped barrels of green acid blood from the Alien movies, I think he'll survive if his suitcase hits the back of the car seat.

Bah , these cars don't need no stinkin subs , they rattle enough on their own without being provoked !!!!!
Kidding , just kidding , , , but to be honest I really like the spare tire well idea , it'll keep it out of the way and I'll bet the "Boom Boom Boom" bass will still rattle the windows just fine

I was going to go this way but I'm going to instead attempt to do a 12" sealed box into the opposite side, so I can keep my spare if possible, or use that space for the amp if it comes to it.
I've done it..actually is still in. I'll try to see if i can find a picture of it when i get home from work. Can't recall the last time I posted here...
That's the way it currently sits. Need to put some time and money into that car..house and corvette have been sapping resources. Intent was to have little neon's behind the amps glow off the white plexi. The camaro insignia is also backlit. None of the neon is bright enough and i hate the look of hte plexi the amps are mounted across.
I have had this set up for years. Where the amp is sitting actually lifts up and you get full access to the storage space below. You can still get to the spare tire well. There is a capacitor installed inside the box between the subs.
I ended up putting the sub in the spare tire well. The interior isn't 100% back together yet, but I can still store the T-tops and I have my trunk space.
Once I have the car put back together all the way I'll be posting up pictures, right now I'm getting it ready to head to the tuners to get my cam install finished up.
