2 and for ohm speaker wiring?

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible to safely wire 2 and 4 ohm speakers in parallel? I was just wondering if that would cause problems or if it would work. What would be the ohm rating after that? Thanks

Matt

4 and 2 ohms in parallel would yield 1 1/3 ohm load. the rule for two resistors (speakers in this case) is product/sum, or 8/6. 1 1/3 ohms isn't a very common load, it'll depend on what your driving it with, I guess you'd concievably need a 1-ohm stable amp. I think i got that all right, anyone feel free to correct me.

That sounds right to me. That is sort of what I was thinking. I do have a 1 ohm stable amp, so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for your help.

Current follows path of least resistance. The 2 ohm speaker will get more power then the 4 ohm one will.

Justin's right. The speakers will not receive equal power, which causes a whole crapload of issues. Also, because the drivers are different, their impedance characteristics will be different as well, which can put a lot of strain on the amp. A speaker is not purely resistive, it has a complex impedance that is a lot different than a resistor, and by using 2 with different characteristics, you're potentially playing with fire.

Thanks again. I was not necessarily going to do that, but was wondering what kind of deal it would be. I already have two 2 ohm BA Pro's running off of my one amp (sometimes), but going to get another amp here soon.
