Static from front right speaker

I recently bought a 1991 firebird with a 305 tbi. It has the stock head unit and as soon as you turn it on there is a loud static coming from the front right speaker. The static also stays the same volume no matter how you turn the ****. Is there any known issue that would cause this? I unplugged the speaker temporally but if I can fix the head unit that would be fantastic. Any ideas?

Re: Static from front right speaker

This is going to sound crazy...but if someone did the front brakes and didn’t bend the cotter key over far enough, it will make a static sound on your radio. I have no idea why or how but it happens.

Obviously before going that route check to make sure you don’t have a bad speaker or a bad ground.

Re: Static from front right speaker

Since there IS sound on the right front, it *might* be bad right side capacitors. Could also be a bad right AMP or possibly even a bad rheostat **** control.
