System Help/Ideas
Hey,
I've been trying to decide on what to do to get a decent sound system setup in my car. Its a 91'. I've put Pioneer 3-Ways in the 6x9 slots. The head unit is also a Pioneer DEH???? its like 40Wx4.
I was trying to decide between the QLogic sub box and Jim85IROC's box. I think i'm going to go with Jim's. Anyways, here was my setup.
Jim's Duel 12" box (MDF)
2 JL W3's 12"
Sony 1000W Class D amp
Does this sound like it would be a good combination?!?! Has anyone had experience with the Sony Xplode Amps?!? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yep go with one of Jims boxes cause the Q-forms may be purdy but they are cheap on the inside. Made out of milk jugs.... but anyway I've never used Sony amps but I've had other Sony Car Audio stuff and I don't like it. I'm not dissing Sony cause I have a Sony ES home theater and love it but they fell off the cliff when it comes to Car Audio. So "I" would go to another brand for amps. There are thousands of them out there and just look for the one that fits your budget and that is a reputable company.
Maybe start a poll to find out everyones opinion on their favorite brand of amps. Just a thought

sony es stuff is pretty good for the car. but i would suggest that if you want a good class-d amp for your subs at around that price, go for one of the jbl's or lanzar vibes. both can be had in the $200-400 range, and both are very good at putting out some serious wattage

Hey,
I'm looking at the JBL amps. How big of an amp would I honestly need to push the Two JLw3 subs and sound good. JBL offers the
1) BP6001 = 1x300 @ 2ohms = 1x600 $300.00
2) BP12001 = 1x600 @ 2ohms = 1x1200 $400.00
Which one would work good w/ my setup (i'm "poppin the cherry" in car audio right now. I'll pick it up fast just don't know much right now...)????

Well, I happen to be in the middle of evaluating and writing a review for the new LASound/Hollywood Cali line of amplifiers.
I arranged for one of the new 5 channel amps directly from the manufacturer and belive it or not I am floored by the quality vs. cost of this amplifier.
Many of you who go back far enough in the industry know that LASound used to be considered a poor quality product, but since they partnered up with Hollywood Digital they are putting out some very nice products at a VERY affordable price.
I have the pdf of their current line up, but not pricing. If you are interested I can email you the pdf file and get you in touch with the manufacturer directly if you are interested.
I have not been a big fan of Sony amps for some time as I believe they just don't have the ball's that many are looking for.
(No this is not a sales pitch, just stating personal experiance)
If you want to go another route, Kicker Impulse series amps are a good choice, or if you want to pop a little more money, Alpine V12 series, Zapco's lower line or Phoenix Gold amps.
Just my $.02 on the amp deal if you are looking to power 2 JLw3's

Ok,
I have just located some good stuff from a bud who is selling everything.
I can get two Cerwin Vega Vega Series for $100.00. And an Xtant Amp that has a channel blown (it was used to power the whole car the reciever wasn't powered) but he says the amp still has everything that would be needed to power the subs. for $200.
My question is, where do i get a box that will work with those subs. They are made to be vented at 1.60ft^3.
JIM85IROC, have you ever made any boxes for these subs?!?!
If not i'll probably go with the subs that will work but Is this a good deal on those components???
