Porting sub box
I have a sub box that is costom made for my trunk. I have 2 10' kenwoods in it and the thing needs to be ported. normal ports wont work because i have the hatch cover and it will make that rattle. I have 2 ideas soo far
1. port it and put a pice of plexiglasss over it liek about 2 inches up so when it hits the glass it will be deflected.
2. takeing some sort of hose and porting it liek that and run it into the back seat.
I knwo these are stupid ideas but i need help and i wont lose the hatch cover so thats out of the question.

Is the box built to the proper specification that Kenwood calls for on ported boxes? Just throwing a port in any sealed box is a recipe for horrible sound. In general, a sub needs 75% to 100% more volume for a ported configuration than a sealed configuration. Having the proper box size as well as proper port area is critical for good sound. Sealed boxes are much more forgiving than ported boxes when it comes to proper specifications.

I'm not saying they can't use a ported box. I'm saying that the necessary box size for a ported system is going to be VERY different from the necessary box size for a sealed system, and if you don't have the correct box size, it's going to sound like a rabid monkey banging on a Folgers can.

You need to contact Kenwood or a shop that carries kenwood and find out what they reccomend for a ported box.

I still have the owners manual on them ill see if that has it in it. But right now the bass does not sound right at all it gets distorted and thats with the bass all the way down.

Assuming you have/get the correct size box and port it, remember not to obstruct the ends of the ports within one port diameter. For example, if you used a 3" port then both the inside end and the outside end of the port should be unobstructed within 3". Also remember that the bigger diameter of the port you can use the better (to reduce port noise), but also a bigger diameter results in a longer port.
