Alpine Halo9 iLX-F409 in a 3rdgen? HVAC or head unit relocation?
After driving all my modern vehicles for the past few years like my 2019 Ram 1500 with the 8.4" UConnect or my 2019 Range Rover Velar or my daughters 2020 Jeep Cherokee etc, I REALLY wanted a new head unit for my 1991 Firebird that had a large touch screen and able to run Android Auto so I can have all my music and navigation etc. I understand that this will install in the car but will block the HVAC controls. I have seen what the install looks like in this YouTube video on a Camaro:
I am considering either relocating the HVAC controls or relocating where the head unit would go. I'm trying to think of what would look more slick and be easier to do and consider both. Relocating the HVAC would involve cutting and splicing in longer vacuum lines and some electrical wires. Relocating the radio would just be cutting and extending the wires. I already have the entire interior out because I installed Kilmat, performed a battery relocation and ran all the 1/0 cables and new fuel pump wires and relay for a manual switch control (and to have the fuel pump be killed with the battery with my Moroso battery kill switch on the tail light) and am putting in new carpet, new Corbeau Seats etc etc etc. I don't have the dash apart though. Center console is out right now. Looking at the firebird dash, I cant see a good spot to relocate either item. Any ideas? Anyone else done this? The Camaro has a narrower instrument cluster and has some space above the radio and HVAC controls while the wider Firebird instrument cluster does not. I have a picture of a Firebird dash attached for reference (not mine)
