Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

I'm currently running a 1.5 DIN Pioneer DEH-P77DH head unit but it has no Bluetooth and won't play MP3 CD

I found this on Crutchfield:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_068NEWP...d-Newport.html

...and while it awesome it will read a USB drive I can put my music library on and do Pandora BT from my phone, jesus titty ****ing christ it is FUGLY!

Are there any new bad *** 1.5 DIN head units out there? I won't modify my dash or cut wires, only use adapters and I hate the look for a single DIN.

I've been spoiled by my Kenwood DNX9990HD in my Acadia the last couple years I guess lol.

Re: Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

I think Pyle might still make a 1.5 DIN unit, but the quality is going to be poor.
1.5 DIN is dead in the aftermarket.

your only options would be mod it for double or get a single that pops out with the bigger screen.

Re: Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

I'll see if I can find a link, but there are some radios that install like a single din but have the oversized screen like a 1.5din unit. I'm not sure about much but they sounded like an interesting option.

Hmmm, not bad. It lacks Bluetooth tho, that's a deal breaker for me, gotta have Pandora. Otherwise I would buy it this second.

Re: Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

Well the Crutchfield doesn't look so much as fugly but more plain as s**t. And for the price, one would expect more features to come with it for $300 plus dollars.

Re: Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

Why not go Doble Din?

Yu can send your bazel to be modify to:
http://shop.doubledmods.com/1982-199...fb-tayours.htm

and then you have a large option of radios to use.

Not bad, but I would be worried about loosing the factory square texturing on the original. I guess I'll send them an email and ask. Next issue though would be all the space inside the radio pod even after modifying the face plate.

All true but I think it is worth because you will have a Good Radio and better looking dash and you also can buy an used plate from ebay and have that one modify and keep the original untouched in case you want to go back.

Re: Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

I'm faced with the same situation, the single DIN (is that they right way to refer to them) doesn't look right, 1.5 DIN is dead and any you get don't seem to have all the options like Bluetooth or a phone interface
Other option are the stereos with the screen that pops out but I'm not sure of the clearance to the shifter on a automatic trans and it will block the AC control panel.

Would like to see if anyone has pictures of the modified bezel to fit a double din

A few members here have purchased the DoubleD version, and there were some quality issues from the pictures I saw.

You can also make your own, I did a write up on how to it here.

Overall, I thought it was not too hard of a job.

Here is a pic.

It is easy to duplicate the camaro bezel texture but the OP has a Firebird.

One reason I don't switch to double din and use the vendor that fabricates bezel to accept double dins is that it doesn't look factory and looks out of place to me.

I asked hawks if they would be interested in making a factory looking double din bezel for us third gen Firebird guys and they said there isn't enough interest.

Re: Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

I was looking for the same thing, here is a modified OEM look for 4th gen style radios, which should fit right in from my understanding. (correct me if I'm wrong).

Re: Any new 1.5 DIN head units?

I will say that the Pioneer the OP had listed at the top is capable of using XM/USB and Iphone/3.5mm stereo/etc cables through the IP bus in the back.

Using the 3.5mm cables you can even use your phone through the factory speakers. I have the p47 model which is just slightly under the 77 and I have all that daisy chained through the IP bus.
