R.I.P. ---- its a sad day
Well fellas, it seems as if though the camaro's odometer has reached 100k. She's got more scratches, more squeaks, less oil (more burning), and well.... u get the picture. So i've decided at my young age, that im gonna sell the camaro and put a down payment on a brand new Dodge Ram.
My question to you guys is:
-are truck boxes my only hope?
-Do truck boxes sound better in trucks?
-I have a truck box (ported/sealed) in my camaro now (only thing that would fit), will that sound better in my truck? or the trunk well of my camaro?
Basically im asking is it possible to get so good low bass out of these truck boxes in an actual truck, not a camaro???
any suggestions are wanted!

With a small-box style sub, you can get great sound in a truck. Because I like big subs, I'm going to yank the bench seats in whatever truck I get in favor of a pair of buckets, and I'm going to construct a custom center console to be the sub enclosure, as well as hold the cd changer tv, dvd, and anything else I feel that it's necessary to have. I'll prolly put a hot plate in too so my coffee will stay warm. :P

the best bass i ever heard was in a regular cab F-150. Two truck boxes (sealed) with twelves. They were custom made for the truck and fit behind the seats, it's usually easier to fit things like amps and fuses under the seats of trucks too. I think because the subs are right behind the seat, you can feel it so much better.

so would a truck box sound different behind a seat in a truck than in the well of the camaro???
im trying to see if i need to buy other truck boxes or if the one i got is ok
the one in my camaro now sounds good in the trunk well, but im wondering what you guys think it will sound like behind a seat in a truck.
(by the way they're 8" JBL Power GT Series)thats a small sub to you right Jim????

I didn't say "small sub" I said "small-box sub". Something like a solo.
And yes, your box will sound different in the truck. Totally different cabin size and shape. That's not to say that it will sound bad though. Try it first, and decide from there.

thought about it, but i have no $$$. And the SOLOs cost a pretty penny.
Im pretty set on keeping the subs i got, as well as keeping the same box.
Does anyone think there will be a big sound difference between the camaro trunk well, and behind the Ram's seat??

I transfered my stereo from my old nissan truck into the camaro a couple months ago. In the truck, since the subs were firing right at your back only 6 inches away, you got a nice massage and rattled the hell out of the back wall. (used to flex about 1 inch) In the camaro, it was a totaly different sound. Still felt the bass but nothing like the truck lol. Both systems sounded good to me though and lots of my friends were impressed. Now if I only had my camaro back
It's got computer problems and it's been in the shop for a month! grr

Anyways, I put a JL 10W1 (1997) in a friends dodge Ram run on a tiny little Alpine amp and he slammed quite nicely inside his truck. If you have the right subs in the right box, it will sound very nice.

yea man, i was actually thinking about one JL 10".. maybe even a 12"?? Does anyone know the prices of these subs?
Also, cbpldc... how did you personally think that JL sounded? How many watts did he have running to it? How much was the box?
haha, sorry guys for all the questions.. just trying to get a good idea in my head of prices

pos...here's what you do. You're probably going to mount the amp under the seat or something, right?
Think long and hard about which amp you want...basically buy as much power as you can afford. But try to pick the right amp...you don't want to have to take the seat apart a second time.
If you plan to upgrade the system later, install whatever wiring you might need the first time. Like if you might add a second amp, just spend the extra few bucks and run the thicker 4-gauge power wire now...it'll save you money in the long run.
Other than that, just throw your boxes behind the seat and see how they sound. I mean, if you don't like them...you just keep the same amp and wiring...you can swap out the sub in just minutes.

was like driving around in a tin can. Mypos, The box is a typical truck box you can get from any Audio dealer, or if low on funds, get it at Wal-Mart. My friend had the Alpine Flex2 amp mounted under his seat the pushed maybe 50x2 Max. I personally would at least get an Audiobahn 100x2 or something similar in power. That way, if you ever want to add a sub, you will have the available power. If you look hard enough on ebay you can find new JL 12's for under $100. You can get the box for $40 and the amp for under $200. With wiring you are looking at $350 - $400 not including the head unit, and that is some very nice sound for not a lot of money. Just my $.02

ok well i just got some prices on a JL 10" with a truck box for $200. I also went to another dealer and found the 10" Solobaric's L7 in a truck box for $350.
Now i would be willing to spend the money for the Solo, but is it worth it? I do want alot of booming going on inside.
If i got the L7, i htink i would bridge my 680w amp to it. Would i need to power the highs with something more powerful then a headunit? I do have a Clarion 4 channel.. will i need it to power the speakers?
basically what im asking is will the bass from an L7 over power my highs? Granted, this Power Acoustiks 680w puts nowhere near 680w.. but it should send about 400w right?
oh yea... if i could, id like to mount the amps in below the back window behind the fold down arm rest/console deal, not under the seat. I think it would look more "showy"
thank, keep em coming
