3 10"'s vs 1 12"

What can I put in my car to hit harder than 3 10" mtx 4000 series pushed by a Profile amp that rmses at 600watts in a Jeep Cheroke?
Will a HX2 do it? I am going to put one in my car(I know I keep saying that but my friend is out of state and it is at his house). If it will out hit it the mtx's what amp should I use? I want it to me louder and out hit my friends set up but to look like I have less in my car. In other words I want it to look like I got really good stuff that probalby didn't cost as much but is better. I don't care if it cost that much as long as it is better than his. Please help me decide what I need to put in my car to sound better, hit harder, and be louder than 3 10" 4000 mtx's.
Thank you for all you help,
Joey
P.S. will a RF 250 power my hx2 somewhat decently until I get something better?

I would say that 1 12 is going to be pretty weak compared to 3 10"s.. 3 10"s are often louder than 2 12"s..
If you want to be louder than 3 10"s your going to need at least the same amount of power and more surface area...

Here's my opinion:

Take the money you'd spend on 3 10s, buy 1 12 and a better amp. That profile amp is your limiter here, not the subs.

The HX2 should do it, but you will need more juice. Another issue here is that your friends Cherokee has more space and is more open. You can make any cheap amp and sub combo sound amazing in an SUV. I set up an 87 Blazer with 2 Jensen 10's and a Pyramid 300 watt amp (I didn't buy or recommend the stuff, I just put it in) and he out pounded some much higher dollar systems, just because SUV's are set up for this kind of sound. I had half of a PPI 4100 powering a Phoenix Gold X-max 12 inch subwoofer in my camaro for awhile, and it slammed like crazy. You are going to have to spend some bucks to outpound your friend. Sorry.

cbpldc,

You were able to make a Jensen sub sound GOOD?!? That's amazing! :lol Three 10's is hard to beat if setup properly. In my opinion, if you were to hookup up 3 12's with the same efficiency to the same amp, the actual db increase would be minimal. Is your box sealed or bandpass? If it's sealed I'm willing to bet 2 of those 10's in a bandpass would outhit 3 in a sealed with that amp.

Yeah, I made a Jensen sub sound pretty decent. They hit fairly well for a short amount of time. In fact I had an old Jensen paper cone 12 in a bass tube in the trunk of my '78 Mercury Grand Marquis and it hit pretty darn good, for the money invested, sounded muddy though. I've done a lot of systems for poor teenagers, so I have a little experience with bang for the buck. Actually a bandpass box would hit harder only in a few certain frequencies, depending upon the subs and how the box is tuned. That is why I despise having bandpass boxes in my cars, because they aren't musical at all, but we'll save that arguement for theory 101.

I think that three 10" infinity subs would kick a$$. I have heard 2 10" infinity's in my cousins altima, and they sounded great. They hit hard, and had a lot of bass to them. Just be ready to tighten all those screws in your car, because they will definitely rattle every loose bolt in your car. I am planning on getting just 2 10" infinity's for my TA.

Diferent make? I will be using my 86 camaro. I am just wanting my system to be better than my friends in HIS jeep. Sorry If I wasn't clear that I am putting the hx2 in my camaro and wanted to be better than the jeep.

I had 3 JL audio 10's in my car and they sounded excellent. Now i have 2 HX2's in my car with a better amp and they are not as loud but hit a little lower. I am going to put my 3 10's back in my car.

2hx2's?? How did you have enough space. Each require about 4 ft3. Do your boxes have correct air space? If so what are you doing with the box and speakers?
