I have a Delco radio/tape player in my 92 Camaro RS. So far I have changed the recommended capacitors and put new belts. The radio plays fine but the cassette doesn't. When I put the tape in, the mechanism clicks few times and then ejects the tape
Once on one of my Blaupunkt cassettes,a small capacitor was bad-the rubber bung had shrank ,leaked and corroded the leads-replaced and resumed playing tapes Also,I have heard of the optical sensor that detects rotation of the capstan drive pulley going bad,but i have never had this happen with any of mine.
I took the radio apart again. The sensor wheel looks to be fine. All the silver areas are there and nothing seems to be chipped or flaking off. The belts are new and tight. I do not see any bad corrosion that may be affecting the PCB and connections. I am not sure what the issue may be besides the IR light going bad
Does anybody have a belt routing diagram for the Blaupunkt auto-reverse radio? I had the original belts so I assume that my routing is correct but it doesn't hurt to double check.
If I put it back together and still doesn't work, I may need to give up on this radio as I don't want to spend more money on it.
Thanks. I may be slowly giving up on the radio. I already spent $30 on the capacitors and $16 on belts. That's about a price of a new Jensen MP3 radio with Bluetooth.
I just did a LOT of Blaupunkt cassette mech work over the winter and after seeing your disc is still in good shape I'm almost sure the sensor is the problem. You can use your phone to check if it "works",... and you can use a pulsing flashlight to see if it "works",.... but that just really just shows you if the 'sensing' side or the 'sending' circuit of the sensor failed - it still don't WORK !
I had trouble finding any replacement sensors ( pinch rollers too ) but recently found someone that knows more than I do about these things and he had a few. I sent him a box of mechanisms so he could replace the OPTI sensors for me and I expect to get those mechanisms back in the near future. If your interested....... I can check with him to see if he's got any OPTI sensors left.
