6.5" vs 6x9
Anyone have experience with changing out the standard 6x9 speakers in the sail panels with a component 6.5" (tweeter and mid bass)? Is it worth it? I've got a 10" tube sub which is very meh but gets the job done. It's just really hard to tell which way to go because the crossovers are shot in all four speakers, thanks Rubycon.

Haven't tried it, but I don't see any advantage. A good 6x9 sounds just as good to me, and they will drop right in if you make sure they don't require too much of a mounting depth. I installed some Focals that dropped right in.

Re: 6.5" vs 6x9
If you are planning on running a dedicated amplifier to the 6.5" components, that is the only way there would be an advantage. I have seen a few people install 6.5" components, install an adapter plate in the mounting location, then run the component set off an aftermarket head unit. That is a terrible idea, as components should always be run off a dedicated amplifier. I currently run Polk DB 4x6's up front and Polk DB 6x9's out back. I have toyed with the idea of adding a four-channel amp to drive them but find myself turning the music down in favor of the 383 Stroker and Magnaflow exhaust notes....

Yeah, right now I'm running an amp on the rears but probably will be moving to a four channel amp and double din headunit. Still on the fence about what to do, really. Not really concerned about playing it loud for extended periods, but I put 100 miles on it in the past few days and the sound is probably worse than the original paper cone speakers and really fatiguing. Really unhappy about it too because I spent quite a bit on all this gear in the late 90's and I remember It used to sound really good.

Skip the components and put a new set of quality 6x9’s back there. Look for a pair with a sensitivity of 90 or higher, and something that can handle the RMS power of the amplifier. Just realized you are from Michigan. Where abouts? Always looking for fellow Third Gen owners in the mitten!

Thats what im leaning towards, I think my sub is dead or dying along with everything else so if I can avoid replacing it that will be helpful. I am just outside Detroit, deep eastside.
