After many years of storage I went back to installing my original radio after my delco cd player(out of a Bonneville)quit. Turns out the cassettes wont play now but did when stored. Im suspecting the drive belt but is it necessary to disassemble the unit to make that call? ..the tape goes in and stays and play arrow lights up but the forward/reverse buttons wont stay in..only other thing is a light audible click noise..I believe my unit is the UT4 model if that helps.
Re: Original am/fm cassette deck not playing tapes
I decided to dive into the unit after watching a disassembly video showing how easy it is to get to these cassette mechanisms..And my drive belt was deteriorated..It actually had morphed into a substance that reminded me of "form a gasket "..pics below(crazy messy substance)..I have no belt to measure by so that I can order the exact one..Neither do I know the belt routing.
Anyone been in my shoes and have done the belt replacement?..I need a part # and routing diagram..TIA
They Rebuild These they got my tape player working they have all stock parts put new lights in and other Stuff. $225.00 One year Warranty Just got it back Happy A+ Service.

Hey! I repair cassette equipment for fun! A Drive belt in tape cassette technology is essentially a purpose-built rubber band. Go to the office supply store and pick up a bag of multiple sized rubber bands. Treat yourself with the colorful ones. Find the size and shape that fits between the pullies and you can get quite a while out of that in and of itself, but if you really need to spend 12 bucks then you can measure the size of that band to get an idea. A Lot of cassette mechanisms use the same belts, so really if you throw that measurement and "cassette drive belt" into ebay, you'll find something.

Thanks for the info but Ive got the actual type/size cassette deck belt coming today..It's called the SCQ 8.62 @ $8.50 shipped..Will report back if fits correctly
Re: Original am/fm cassette deck not playing tapes
Belt arrived today and installed it tonight..Fits great and makes full contact on the pulley surfaces..I think the wall is thicker than what it should be be..What was left of my original belt measured at a 1/16" wide so I ordered the SCQ 8.62..
The thinner belt was a SCY 8.6 .048 wall thickness..Anyways will see how it plays cassettes tomorrow . Hopefully that was my only issue..Put up a pic to show you guys which delco deck Im working on..a 3 button Fujitsu deck I think is what it's called
Re: Original am/fm cassette deck not playing tapes
you have the same radio I have and the same problem, let us know how you made out with your project,it would be nice to have the cassette working also
I had someone install a jack in mine so it plays tunes from my phone or a MP3 player,so I really don't miss the tape but it would be great to have that working.

I got it back together last night and installed it today..It plays just fine..forgot how good the old cassettes played thru those stock speakers..I do have another issue though with the auto-reverse. When I go to switch to side 2 it reverses fine but it doesn't always play the music and if it does play its only thru the right side speakers. So at the moment I have to manually flip the tape to hear both sides. I haven't a clue what that's all about and probably just gonna use it as is. If anyone has experienced that problem I would like to know the fix.
