New head unit recomendation for 86 TA
My 30 years old no name brand tape deck is misbehaving.
It would be nice to get one with BT (for phone calls and music) AM and FM.
Is there anything available for this 1.5 din opening?
Not looking for quality audio, just something that works and reliable if possible.
Also, can I use stock speakers with a modern unit?

ebay Usually has one or two used low spec alpine or pioneers for way too much money.
If you prefer the flush mount look of the original decks and aftermarket 1.5 din cassettes consider a mechless unit like an Alpine UTE73BT or Sony DSCA415BT. They’re inexpensive, half the depth of a CD player and don’t require the bump out single din dash kit for a cd player. Using a cabled connection for input reduces losses in sound quality and keeps things simple. From my own experience the Sony is a better choice if you’re big on Bluetooth.
You won’t have any issues using stock speakers on these decks, though you’ll want to spend some time getting the fader setup if you’ve got 10 ohm speakers up front.

I don't have personal experience with these, but it would look decent in old 86:

your 3 options are stick with a single DIN deck, migrate to a double DIN deck, or seek out a 1.5DIN deck, which would either require you finding a used aftermarket one, or a used OEM deck. If you choose to stick with OEM, a later 1.5 DIN GM deck from a newer vehicle would be a big improvement over the original 80s decks.
Personally, the double DIN is my preference. You can add a backup camera for added visibility when backing up, and they look the least cheesy of the options.

I had a Jack installed in my original radio,I can use my MP3 Player or my apple phone with Pandora music and the phone works threw the speakers .have your radio restored it's probably cheaper and looks nicer with original.

With my older cars, ( 1988 Lincoln Mark VII LSC, 1996 Impala SS) I did what "mantaguy" above did. Had universal 1/8" input installed in a properly working Head Unit.
