Will a Head Unit's quality degrade???

Well I started to pull the stereo out of the truck this weekend and only got as far as the amp and boxes. I drove the truck to work today and the radio sounds really crappy
I planned on droping this one in my firebird while the truck is in storage but it sounds horrible. I have a Rampage "audiovox" its a cdplayer 100 wattsx4. It sounded good when I first got it with no amps. This thing now sounds really staticy/crapy. I dident plan on using an amp in the bird but I might have to if it sucks this bad. Do head units degrade over a 2 1/2 year period?

I don't want to bag on your stuff but a powering speakers off a rampage is like powering an f-body with a weedeater. They are not the greatest quality. Although you sound like you have a hook up prob. It shouldn't making those wierd sounds....I have seen many Rampages not last a year but they usually just die!!

Yea i know they suck i bought this radio when i graduated high school "When I was broke".
Now after spending 2000$ on a paint job im in that boat again. I have this hooked up the the audiovox 3 way enclosure so it should supply it sufficent power. Its wired correctly actually its wired better than alot of competition setups "alot of free time". So im thinking that the only way i can use this is with the amps. Just very disapointed that it clunked out so quickly

You may want to check the connection from your antenna to your head unit. If you have static from the radio (FM) and Tape/CD player - check your speaker connections.
