My 91 Camaro needs a new radio/cd. I bought one of the Koss 1.5 din's and the display is too dark and skips VERY easily. I thought about just putting in a newer GM theftlock type radio/cd unit and wondered if it would just plug into my harness. I have the 4 plug type harness not the older 3 plug type.

I love GM I have an 89 Formula and a monsoon radio out of a 99 Z28 plugs right in, but it doesnt fit too well in the space just a hair to big at least in the birds. Hope this helps.

 

That is the info I am looking for. Someone that actually did it. I love the sound of my Monsoon stereo in my 99TA. I don't want to mess up my convertible with subs taking up the wee bit of cargo space I have. Plus my experience with aftermarket stereos has been questionable reliability. Thanks guys,

Brian, I am about to find out hands on. I just got a 98 Delco CD player and am going to get it into my 88 IROC. Now my 88 has the three plug deal (older 12-pin type) but I already have an adapter harness for the new radios since I now have an original deck from an 89 in there (that's when they changed it).

From what I see right now, the newer decks like this one, have guide rails on the side that will have to be removed. Also, the placement of the plugs on the back may prove to be a little wierd as well as the part where the vent fan is (CD Player). I'll let you know when I start working on it. I'll take some pics and probably write a tech article on it. I'm destined to get it in there so I hope I can figure out some way.

I'm going to plug it in tonight and then start working on getting it in this weekend hopefully.

I still have to actually install the deck so I'll let you know. It got to dark outside to do anything so I'll save it for tomorrow.

 

Okay, I've hit a snag.



Notice the two side ducts. These are in the way of the extra protrusion in the rear of the deck. We need about 3/4" on the right side and about 1 1/2" (for the fan) on the left side more clearance for the extra protrusion on the rear of the deck. I'm going to look into some mods to the vents and see if I can't get this thing to fit.

DAMMIT! I feel a Jim85IROC moment coming on ...

I'm going to go ahead and remove the center console. Done it before ... I'll do it again!!!

the new ones are the same as ours, but if you get a new one with BOSE the wiring harness is diff.
