Which speakers should I get?
As of now, I know pretty much nothing about car audio. What is a good brand of speakers? I plan on getting new 6x9's in the back and 4x6's in front but dont know what brand is good. Also, do I need an amp or is that only if I get subs?
One last question: Is there any company that makes a combo MiniDisc/CD reciever? I have a home MD unit and quite a few MDs but I also have lots of CDs so I would like to be able to listen to both in my car. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I would go with polk. I have them and they sounds real nice. You dont need an amp, but depending on how loud you want it, you might want an amp, but you can add it later.
I had subs with no amp to my 4 speakers and the bass was drowning out the mids and highs so I got an amp for my 6X9's and 6X4's

89 camaro 305 tbi, flomaster 3 chamber cat back, gutted cat, Edlebrock open element, and a 160 degree T-stat. 2 kicker comp 12"'s, polk for the rest. Phoenix gold xs2300 to subs, kicker impulse 404XI to 4 speakers, pioneer DEH- P7000R head unit, and finally a 12 disc changer. Full leather interior from [URL=http://www.MrMikes.com[/URL](its nice)
TES Headers in the mail, and about to order a stage 2 fastchip.

alpine makes a cd/md player, unfortunately i think it is double-din sized.. the model is MDA-W750, check out alpine1.com for the specs.. another option would be to get a md player w/ changer capabilities and hook up a changer for the cds.. but is you have more md's that may not be worthwhile.. just ideas! have fun..
Eclipse..... Don't forget them. BTW that is what I have

Boston acoustics are my favorite. Their Pro Series are some of the best speakers I have heard. You won't need an amp necessarily. Like what was said earlier, subs can drown out your mids and highs sometimes (like mine do right now), so in that case you would probably want another amp for them. Without subs, you should be just fine running them off the head unit.

Is there any way to get the double din to fit? How much would that cost to get installed?

In reference to Bostin Acoustik speakers.. are they better than the Rockford 4x6 punches and the 6x9s? The Rockford speakers are quite a bit more expensive, just wondering if paying more for the Rockfords is worth it, or if their just overpriced.
"Any way to get the double din to fit?"
Sure, if you want a custom made HVAC/radio pod. There really isn't a decent way to get those to fit in our cars. You're best bet is to go with the GM/Chrysler fit, or get an adapter/trim kit for a single din radio.

yes the bostons are better. their prices depend on which product line you go with. for the 6x9's they offer the RM series, and series they have for 4x6's is the FX series (you can also get a 4x6 plate in the RX series). I wish I knew about Boston when I got my speakers because i would have waited to save the few extra bucks. if you're looking to build a sweet system piece by piece, or even just good quality sound from regular speakers you cant beat the bostons. no amp is needed, but with one you will get clearer sound at higher volumes. also if you get the 4x6's make sure you get model # RX7 because it is the correct depth. it has many mounting holes around the plate, rather than the model w/ four holes, one in each corner (they mount too deep) http://www.bostonacoustics.com/Series.asp?CategoryID=2 is their website for car audio speakers, check it out...they also have a dealer locator

I used to think the boston acoustics proseries were the best sounding speakers.. But I have recently been listening to the Focal Utopia 6.5" components and I don't see how a component set could get any better. These things are exactly how the sound should be. I just wish I could afford the things ($900 a set!!!)...
Sorry, forgot to answer your question in the first post.. I've had about 4 different sets of 4x6"s. I've had $150 cerwin vega's, I've had $100 Pioneers, I've had $100 Clarion Pro audio's and I've had Kicker's which I got as a present. The Kickers had FAR superior highs and mids compared to the others, especially without an amp. With an amp they all are pretty close, but without, Kickers are more efficient and sound alot better. Thats just my opinion though. If you want to know what you're going to like just take some of your favorite cd's with you and have a listen. Nothing makes me more mad than when I go to listen to speakers and I've never heard the song before so I have nothing to compare it to..
