You may be getting first rate stuff, but sometimes you have to wonder where they got it

And more Civic's then I can count. Why do they even bother?

There usually isn't anything to worry about until you have a problem and need warranty work. WOAH! Just saw my 86 Sport Coupe in Miami Vice!!!!!! Anyway, returning your equipment if you have a problem will suck. For one, the company may or may not still be in business. Second, most companies, including Rockford Fosgate will not honor warranties through non-authorized dealers. No dealers are authorized to sell Rockford online. So, you are at the mercy of the company. At best, you send it back to them and wait an ungodly amount of time for another, and at worst you wind up with a paper weight.

true, true. But, you'll pay as much from Crutchfield as you will from your local retailer. BUT, I have bought from them before, and if I ever needed to, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

KlayBurn,
What is the significance of having Z's in the serial number of Rockford products?

ok, here is the deal. some companies can get stuff cheaper in parts and build it themselves, so if it says pioneer it might really be made but some crappy guy in his basement.

Just one rule of thumb when buying from online. Get a reciept. Plain and simple. I bought a sony cdx-m600 of ebay, luckily they sent me a reciept so the warrenty was honored.

Normally when I buy things from Internet companies I email them and maybe give them a phone call to see what kind of service they have. I do this to see how fast they answer emails, if their sales people are knowledgeable of their products and services just to make sure they don’t seem sketchy. I ask them questions about the warranties, what if I have to return things etc. If they seem legit then I order things from them.
