interest poll: "stealth box" style sub enclosure for single 10"
interest poll: "stealth box" style sub enclosure for single 10"
Ok guys, there seems to be a little interest in stealth box style sub enclosures for single woofer.
I would like to make them for you, but a few things have to happen.
1) I need a donor car. I do not own 3rd gen's anymore. So I have nothing to base a mold off of. I live in Hanover PA, which is about an hour south of Harrisburg PA and an hour north of Baltimore MD. I would need a thirdgen for at least a day, perhaps a whole weekend.
2) I need some demand. There is not much demand for my kickpanels, which is fine because I already had a design I could base off of. Sub enclosures though take a lot of materials and a good bit of time to make. If I could make them in batches, it would be a lot easier on me.
3) They are gonna cost a good bit. Kickpanels only need to be strong enough to withstand a kick now and then, a sub enclosure needs to withstand me jumping on it. Literally, if a sub enclosure can't withstand a lot of weight being put on it, then t will flex under the pressure of the bass and will not sound good. I do not do anything half-a$$ed, so if I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it right. Probably about $100 in materials alone, with another $200 in labor. These are just guesses though until I build one.
I'd love to do these, but I don't want to invest a few hundred $$ in fiberglass and only sell 1 or 2.

Yes, it will go in the driver side cubby hole. You will have to remove the little cardboard box, and replace the door with a grill.

I would be interested.
My only concern would be which speaker you are going to build it around. Since each sub needs a specific amount of air space I'd like it to match the driver I'll load it with. Something good like a JL Audio 10W6 or a Rockford Fosgate Power 10.
I'd also be interested in a box for the drivers side too (since you're gauging input and all).

I like to build the boxes as big as I can with the space I have to work with. That way i can always add mass inside to make it smaller for small box woofers. I would guess between .6 and .75 cu ft in the thirdgen corner. My last box I believe was .6, and it could have been a little bigger.

Mike,
Thanks for the info.
You may want to try and put this poll up on camaroz28.com as well. They have a dedicated third gen forum whose readers may also be interested.

I would spend 80-100 buycks for a stealth box to fit in the cubby hole for my pioneer 10's.... 1 or 2 I would do it because I have the battery mounted in the trunk so it would really help..

sorry to say, but it will not be worth my time to do them for anything less than $300.
Matt,
Since you seem to have the most interest, just make a trip to PA and you can be the mold

D@mn it, third-genners are cheap. I wish I was closer (I'm in CA) because this is exactly what I'm looking for. Please shoot me an e-mail if interest on this ever improves or you find a donor.
