Does the tape auto-reverse, and then eject? If so, the rubber drivebelt has snapped. Yank the radio, pull out the snapped belt, and take it with you to find a replacement. They might want to sell you one that's much shorter and a bit thicker, because they'll say the original belt has stretched-- try to avoid that. The extra thickness of the "new" belt will put a strain on the tape deck's motor, and s-l-o-w--d-o-w-n your music. It's true your old belt will be stretched, but not by too much. Actually, maybe you should call around electronics & stereo repair stores to see if you can find a source for belts- before you go through all that trouble to open the radio up.

Hey, doesn't GM carry that? I seem to remember hearing something about it...

naw the tape wont go in at all, it goes in half way until it seems almost jammed. I can push real hard on it and make it start playing but other than that nothing. I wonder what it could be ????

Did the previous tape snap a piece of it's case off in there? Is the tape your trying warped? (I jammed my tape player like that once; bent a tape by leaving it on the seat in the hot sun & didn't realize it until the next morning...)

You can get decent head units for around 100, maybe less, and they sound better and last longer than factory.

i am aware of thise but i plan on spending about 300$ atleast on a CD player so it wouyld be a waste to spend 100$ on a sub par unit if i wont see the money fomr it again. Ill just wait it out until im ready for something more expensive.

It might've bent, somehow. If you take it out and apart, you could get a good view of how the tape actually slides in. Don't forget about Crutchfield and their 4-payment-plan... you could get that CD player of yours for $75 a month...
