Sony speakers sound horrible. I'd go to a local shop and listen to other brands for yourself.

I have an Alpine head unit that came with the car, I will get you the model in the morning. Now I am looking for a good replacement for the rear speakers, and maybe the front. I want to spend around 250 on them. I need to save money for some motor hop ups(got to back up the sound some how).

I backed out of the 6x9's, but I do have two 12's. In my opinion, they're a great sub for the money I paid. I don't know much about their other speakers, though.
I was wondering about the xplodes myself. But how good could they be, they sell them in Wal-mart for $60-$70. What do they cost near you?
I have a set of Panasonic tri-axles(sp?)and they sound great! Even the co-axles sound good. I was pushing about 150-200 watts thru them w/no distortion. Don't remember how much I paid. Also Boston Accoustics are pretty good(little pricey).

hmmm. . . considering i dont quite own a z i think their speakers are crap but they nake some good amps, recently bout 760w amp form them and i think it sounds like about a good high price (fosgate) 250w x 2 . . . infinity makes some really good speakers and dont skimp on the subs, fosgate ususally go on sale at best buy about every 4 weeks, 2 12's for 130, really good deal considering they are normally about 100 a peice (sorry for the spellin i am in a hurry)

I used their amps on an install (the owner wanted Sony), but talked them out of the Sony speakers. I'd never heard them, my supplier never heard them either- but my main decision was based on price. For the same price as the Sony speakers, you can get a speaker from a company that's been making them for longer.

The Sony's sound just like every other $75-$100 6x9 out there. If you want some good quality sound and want to spend around $250, go with the MB quarts or Rockford or Polk or whatever. There's a guy on here who has recently purchased Audiobahn 6x9's, and he loves them. I'm a huge Audiobahn fan, but I've never heard their 6x9's so I can't make an informed recommendation there.

I went looking for speakers the other day. The guy in the stereo store preferred the Infinity speakers. I am not sure exactly what model they were...but I think they were the Referece's. In my opinion Infinity is a great brand....I am planning on getting 2 10" Infinity Reference Subs(they push out a max of 1000 watts a sub). I think they were around $139 for the pair of 6x9's.

Hello, I have a Sony amp, Sony cd player, along with the 6 x 9 speakers you were talking about. I think they sound great! They are really clear and can get loud also. The Circuit City guy recommended them, he has them in his truck.

Well what I meant from that, is if a Circuit City worker chooses Sony to put in his truck, then they must be pretty good. I talked to another guy from Circuit City and he confirmed that they were good also (but he liked Infinity best, but they are more expensive), so I don't think he was just defending his purchase.
sony blows. In Car Audio... Kicker, Audiobahn, Memphis, Infiniti, Eclipse, Alpine, Kenwood and Blaupunkts are the only way i would go (whether it be amp, speakers, subs etc etc.)
kev
ps - look into Infiniti's or Bostons

I have sony mobile ES 6x9's and i like them. I have heard the xplodes and didn't think they were the best thing out. I don't know about you Jim85 but thats where i go for my custom work
Where else can you get an alarm installed and they only hook up one door and the shock sensor and forget about the door hatch and motion detector

It is the one with the black pannel that turns completely black when the stereo is off. I want the one with the detachable face option. Here is a link...I hope it works.

Other than the CD deck, and posssibly a Sony amp, I would never put Sony speakers in my car. It is just my opinion as well as the opinion of many others. I think I am giong to go with a set of 10" Infinity Reference Subs(1000 Watt max) and all Infinity speakers. They are great sounding speakers and subs.

Okay, here it is. The general word of wisdom is that the Japanese make great electronics. (Decks, amps, and so on.) They pretty much rule the world for electronics.
If you've noticed, speakers don't seem to travel from continent to continent too much. Yes, mass retailers like Circuit and Best Buy carry Sony, Pioneer, or Clarion speakers, that's true.
So what I'm saying is, chances are, you're probably going to like an American-designed speaker the best. (Not necessarily American made, just American engineered.)
Besides all that, the plain truth is that while CD players and amps sound pretty much alike....all speakers sound entirely different.
Go around, listen to as many speakers as you can. Buy what YOU think sounds best. It might not even be the most expensive speaker in the store...if you for some reason think the $25 dual-cone speakers sound best....then guess what? That means it's the best speaker. Buy what you like the sound of.
