major stereo problems
i have an 89 gta with a factory stereo with the buttons on the steering wheel that controls it. first, sometimes the buttons don't work, but when they do they work well. what is the problem with that? the second thing i want to do is hook up subs with a 1000 watt amp that i already have but there is no output for an amp, how can i get around this and hook up the amp and subs so it runs with the factory stereo that i already have. i looked into putting a cd changer with an amp output into my car but then i couldn't run the subs with the radio. jcwhitney makes an equalizer that comes with an output on it but i don't know if that would allow me to run the stereo with the subs. i would like to see a wiring diagram also of how to do this. kinda complicated but if you could help i'd appreciate it.

What you will need to do is get a Line Output convertor. These can be bought at any stereo store, and sometimes, I have seen them at Wal-Mart. All you'll have to do is tap into the rear speaker wires and run wires to the LOC and then run your RCA cables from there to the amp. If you want to add a changer, your best bet is to get an aftermarket head-unit and find one that has CD changer controls. You just don't get the best quality sound out of a changer that is run throught the FM band on a factory head unit. BTW, don't buy an EQ, especially from JC Whitney. They will just add noise to your system.

If you emailed me on Friday, I tried to respond, but it wouldn't send out. I tried again this morning. Metra makes a LOC and scosche makes one too (Wal-Mart). You can pick one up and any local stereo shop. Your best bet would be to get a 200-300 watt amp with 1 or 2 channels from Audiobahn, and get a couple of tens. Go to www.soundhabit.com and look them up.
