I bought a book a while ago titled "auto audio". It was decent. I learned most of my useless knowledge from reading car audio magazines, and learned all of my usefull knowledge from experience and from my electrical engineering classes.

I agree with Jim here.
Those books mainly tell you how to choose your equipment, how to wire stuff up, and what type of wiring and installation parts to buy.
Then what happens is equipment changes, installation techniques change, we end up learning more stuff...
My guess would be that those books get out of date pretty quickly, and none of them tell you how to work on your particular car.
If you can make friends with someone who works in a car stereo place, see if you can hang out there sometime; you will learn a lot just by watching. And visit the forums on www.carsound.com, and learn all you can there.
If you read Jim's thirdgen car stereo article, you should be off to a good start.
