Fac. radio prob

My front right speaker only puts out about 20% sound. I replaced my front dash speakers thinking they were bad, but still the sound is not balanced. What can I do or check ?

make sure your not out of phase. Meaning, that you didnt reverse the + and - when you hooked the wires up.

Are you running from the headunit or a external amp for the speakers?

I hooked up the wires for the new speakers the same way as factory ones. No amps or anything just fac. am/fm cass. Works fine otherwise. It's just a bummer having to offset the F/R L/R trying to balance the sound. It look pretty tight behind the radio to try to check for any loose connections and if I were to go to the trouble to pull it I'd likely replace it anyway, just hoping there might be a easy check or fix.

Jon,

I take it you are using new wires? (from you last post) If not try using new ones. (They usually come with a new set of speakers)

That is exactly the way I have to make my "*****" look to hear good even sound outta my car speakers.
I was told my head unit attached to an external amp before it went to speakers.
I have a Delco radio, from a 1992 highend car, that fits in my 1985 Firebirdradio space.
I have the wires, hard lined/soldered to the in car factory set up (the two black plugs for power & constant battery, and the white & blue blocks for the front/rear speakers.
My "new" 1992 Delco radio (#16129912) has the black/blue ribbon connection in the back of it. Blue has 4 wires outta it.
Got eveything to sound ok, but I know it's not hooked up correct.

I don’t think that they could be out wired of phase unless it came that way from the factory. What I did was removed the old speakers, cut the connectors off the end of the wires, then I spliced in using the supplied pinch connectors only about 5” of new wire with connectors for new speakers, noting which wire to which terminal. Anyhoo I still only get about 20% sound from the right speaker. Think I’ll try switching wires on the speakers to check phase and check for a tech article to see how to R&R the radio.
