Pyramid makes 1000 watt subs too.

In reality, although some subs (not the Pyramid) can physically withstand 1000 watts of input power, that doesn't mean that they're capable of providing any useful output at those power levels. Many subs are built strong enough to withstand high power levels, but provide no additional output once they reach a certain level. Said in simple terms, a 1000 watt sub may not get any louder after more than 200 or 300 watts is provided. Beyond that point the dynamic compression negates additional power input, and at some point the sub is going to reach it's mechanical limits.

I had two Boston Pros that were rated at 1200 watts rms each. The higher end companies sometimes have those subs. But like what was said before, you may not actually get anything more out of them than durability at those levels. They can just withstand more power.

This is a perfect example of what I was trying to illustrate earlier. Compare a DVC Rockford to the single coil counterpart. The mechanical parts of the sub are identical. The only difference is the extra coil. 500 watts through either sub will provide identical results. 500 watts through either sub will push it to it's mechanical and acoustical limits, but the DVC is capable of withstanding double the power because it's got the extra voice coil. But, because the two subs are otherwise identical, that extra 500 watts isn't going to translate into any single bit of additional output. The sub is still going to reach it's maximum output (and it's mechanical limits) at 500 watts, and any additional power applied beyond 500 watts is just going to make it clunk harder when it reaches it's mechanical limits.

There used to be a company.. started with a D. Think it was Diamond Audio (but I thought they were still in business) or Dynaudio or something that had a 15" that took 4000 watts. It weighed 75 pounds as well. That's a pretty tough speaker.

Infinity makes subs that push out 1400 watts a sub. They make some a$s kickin subs. Check them out...they make the Infinity Reference and the Infinity Perfects. They look and sound great. I am going to buy them for my car.

the mmatts juggernaut takes like 3000 watts max, and i run orion HCCA's and they take 1200 watts max. and that MTX sub is the RFL, but at $1,000 a peice i doubt he has that. and yeah, alot of subs can handle alot but after a certain point they don't put out any louder of music. my subs are one of very few that put out more spl after their rms power. my subs don't reach max excursion of 2" until about 1000 watts.
