berlinetta swivel radio problem
berlinetta swivel radio problem
My berlinetta's swivel radio signal only comes out of the right two speakers. Sometimes it won't even turn on. When I hit the little black and gray box behind it sometimes a signal will come through all four speakers for a while. Is this box thing damaged? Will I replace it when I take out the swivel radio and put in a cd player? Will a cd player even work if that box is damaged? How much would it cost to replace this box and what does it do?
ahhh, that damn radio is still out there, eh?
well whatever you do, dont break or harm the radio for it is rare and possibly worth some kind of $.
I just got rid of my berlinetta which had the same radio, and when i took it to Best Buy they said that they didnt have any kind of mounting kit for the dash in these camaros. He also said he's never seen anything like it before, (which you're gonna hear alot of).
My suggestion is.. take it to Best Buy (cringe) and HOPEFULLY they know enough how to fix it.

Maybe best buy could help. I'll have to ask them what they can do. I think that the little gray box inside the center console has something to do with the computer system because it has other wires running to it besides the ones coming from the radio(and it has a big computer chip inside). It seems to be causing the problem because when I hit it (always worth a try) the radio works fine for a while. I already have subs and an amp which I am anxiously waiting to install as soon as i get a cd player. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've got a spare berli radio that's collecting dust in my garage. I have no idea if it works or not, but the harness has been modified a bit. If you want it, you can make me an offer. I have no use for it.

Let me guess, the radio is only making sound from one SIDE of the car - right ??
This is a common problem with the Berlinetta radio's as they get older. The problem is located in the little silver "Brain" that's inside the floor console.
The repair is fairly easy (as I am told) and is related to a poor soldering connection for the "balance" control inside the silver reciever box.
P.S.

I would be interested in buying your berlinetta radios if you decide to sell it. Just send me an E-mail with your asking price and a description of the radio (send a picture of it if possible !)

Those are some nice berlinettas, Jon. So the problem is easy to fix and it is in that grey "brain." What else does that "brain" do? I'm thinking about putting in a CD player under the middle A/C vents. Would I have to hook up the CD player to go through that grey box? I'm planning on keeping the swivel radio with my car so if and when I sell it it will be stock. Thanks for the help.

Here is a "swivel radio"
I could not point to the circuit was the one causing the balance problem.... but any qualified radio tech should be able to find it quickly. I know that is where the bug is because I have needed that repair to my radio in the past.
The wiring connections from the car to the Factory berlinetta radio have the exact same plugs as the regular camaro,..... so installing another unit is simply a matter of finding room for it.
I choose to install a CD changer in both of my Berlinettas instead of trying to mess with a single "remote" CD Player, or another head unit - MUCH easier & less hassle !

thanks John
I think I'll just wire a reguler CD player somewhere and take out that stupid swivil radio. I might as well sell it since it doesn't work anyway so if you want it John I'll give it to you cheap for all the help you've given me.
