Alpine stereo not coming on
Ive had the alpine 7861 for 8 months and had it professionally installed. Last night when i turned my car on the stereo didnt come on with the car, i checked all the connections and they look good, but i cant find the fuse to see if its blown. The alpine manual says it has an inline fuse holder but i cnat find it and my 89rs doesnt have a fuse for the radio in the block. If one of the speaker wires was touching metal and shorting out would that cause it not to come on at all or something along those lines. Sorry for the long post im just dumbfounded, any help please?

Have you checked the back of the stereo?
On some car stereos they put a fuse in the back of the unit and a inline fuse as well.
You'll have to pull out the unit to see if a fuse is back there.
As for a inline fuse.....
Fine the red wire on the unit and follow it until it ends.
THen you will find out two things.
1) the inline fuse (looks kinda like this..... ----(FUSE)----- ) It's a small plastic pieces usually white/clear or black.
2) where the power goes to your fuse block.
Hope it helps.

It doesnt have the fuse in the back, i checked that first, i also know it doesnt have a fuse in the fuse box, but where does the power cbale originate from and where is it grounded too? All the cables just lead up and behind the thermostat.

You should have a fuse for your radio in the box under the dash on the driver's side. My '84 Z has one for the int. lights and radio. If yours is the same and your dome light works than it is not the fuse. Then make sure the radio(AND ANTENNA!) are grounded properly. If the antenna is not grounded that may cause the radio to not come on.
If those are not the problems then you need to check that both power wires (switched & continuous) are connected right. Also if it will accept and eject CD's then your continuous power supply if ok.
Hope this helps,
Matt

Theres another fuse..same thing happened to my radio, the clock worked but it didnt come on. Under the dash, there will be a black square with tabs on it, above that are some more fuses including one for the radio..check that.
