What kind of 4x6 would you recommend?

Hello

I'm just slowly putting my stereo together

so far I have

Pioneer 1300 deck (45x4)
Kenwood 6x9 at 170w
Kicker 100psi amplifier
2x12" Clarion at 500W max I believe
stock 4x6

any 4x6 you would recommend on this list?
http://www.cardiscountstereos.com/Sp...ub_Catagory=46

Also, should I get tweeters to go with the front 4x6, even if the most new 4x6 have a built in 1" tweeter?

Thank You

Ah, heck if I know ... I just ordered a pair of the Pioneer TS-G4647's .... price is decent and have to sound better than the stock POS's .... I'm pretty sure they're not the best ones out there, but I haven't had any problems with Pioneers so far ... I'm running a pair in the rear right now that are a few years old.

I love my cerwin vegas, and they also are pretty cheap. My friend has pioneers and he has no bass out of them. He also complains about them distorting very easy. I have had no probs with mine and man there loud. I thik they are a buy for the money

No need for bass out of 4 x 6's ... especially when you have a couple o' 10's in the back ... my bass **** sees the midway point at best

In my opinion, forget about the 4x6 idea and do one of two things. Look into component speakers for the kick panels or get a 4x6 plate system with a round speaker and a tweeter instead of the oval speaker.

The component setup is going to be more difficult to do, just b/c of the fact that you either have to buy or make kick panels for them. Though that is not hard, it is more time consuming than just stuffing something in a pre-made hole in the dash.

The 4x6 plate setup is going to give you much better sound than a 4x6 will. A round speaker is better for bass than an oval speaker, which distorts easier b/c of the shape of the cone. Boston Acoustics makes a nice 4x6 plate setup, which you can view at this link: http://www.bostonacoustics.com/Serie...ID=26&SpecID=4 I know Infinity used to make one, but I don't know if they do anymore or not. The plate setups can usually handle more power than the standard 4x6 also. In the case of the Boston Acoustics, it is 40 more watts, plus it is the middle of the line speaker instead of being bottom of the line like the 4x6.

If you have never looked at Boston Acoustics speakers, I highly suggest you check them out. They make some of the best speakers on the market (in my opinion). You see them in home audio alot now also. The Pro line of car speakers is phenominal. Good luck.

Matt

I put some Alpine 4x6's in my dash. They are actually too deep for the dash, but not by much. Once I put the speaker covers on you cant even tell.

They sound crystal clear as well.

Come on guys read the post. He already has Kenwood 6x9's. Stick with one kind of speaker in your car, subs can and usually are differant brands than the full range speakers, but full range speakers MUST be the same. If not the speakers signiture won't match leaving the soundstage confusing. In audio, selecting differant types of speakers is like putting differant size wheels and tires on your car. You don't want 15's on the drivers side and 16's on the other do you? If you want differant front speakers then get differant back speakers.

As far as what's best...the possibilities are endless. I'd just get a Kenwood 4x6 plate set if they sell one. Plates usually sound better than oval speakers becouse they have a devoted midbass and a tweeter mounted to the inside, not only does this keep midbass from being deflected, but the round cone won't flex as much as an oval cone. Plus I've heard these fit much better, with the shallower mounting depth on the tweeter side and off center mid magnet, making it easier to fit in some Firebirds that may have ducting in the way.

Good luck,
Matt

i have a set of pioneer 4x6 plates which sound awesome, but if you want to stick with kenwood i used to have a set of kenwood excelon 4x6s up front which also sounded pretty good but couldnt handle the power i had into them(bout 75 watts)but they where probably the best 4x6 i have ever heard (and i think ive heard them all)

By the way Allan I have substoo...and there is no such thing as too much bass. You have to like it when you feel the bass in your steering wheel form your 4x6's. Thats just me though

The Kenwoods don't sound too bad but power, Notta! I had the Excelons and the Infinitys. IMO the Infinity's smoked'em pretty bad in SQ. Best route is plates if you have a Camaro or like to hack up the dash in ole Firebird. I'd skip the hard work and the waste of money because even with plates there is very little midbass and the imaging sucks. So skip all that and get you some Kicks or make your own and be happy. That way you will have good midbass, imaging, and with components or a larger speaker like like what 87transam5.7tpi has (1 Coaxial in a the kicks) you can throw alot more power to them and increase the front sound stage.
