I'm putting my 1990 Lumina unit in my 89 firebird and I have one problem. Everything fits and works good but when i turn my lights on the station light dims but no lights on the radio come on like station and so on. Am I missing something?

 

your 90 Lumina deck doesn't have an illunination input, therefore no light

 

how do i get it to light up then? when it was in the lumina it lit up.

 

does anything light up at all??? or is it just the dimmer???

 

in the lumina everthing lit up, when in the firebird only the clock /station dims.

 

try comparing the factory wire colors between both cars, they should be exactly the same. I'm guessing that the 'bird doesn't have an illumination wire in the car period. for some help here are the factory wire colors :

tan - front left positive
gray - front left negative

lt. green - front right positive
dk. green - front right negative

brown - rear left positive
yellow - rear right negative

dk. blue - rear right positive
lt. blue - rear right negative

orange - +12v constant power
yellow - +12v ignition power
black / dk. brown - ground
pink - power antenna turn-on

any other wires will be connected to the illumination of the car. be careful because some cars require a negative illumination and some require a positive.

 

I had the same problem with an 89 grand am deck in my 85 ta.
Just needed to replace the bulbs. hope this helps.
