Right now I have two mtx 6000 10" subs sitting in the back facing the glass and I am getting another 10" sub. I want to use this sub for me to feel. Where would be the best place to put it or mount it. I was thinking of right behind my seat. What do you guys think??

 

no. in hatchbacks, its ideal to use the glass. Plus the longer a bass frequency can travel the better it will sound. test it out.. roll your windows up (listen), then roll your windows down (listen).

i would definately put the subs in a custom box that fits in the trunk well facing the glass, maybe even with a slight angle.

i hear of a 6db gain in hatchbacks? is this true?

As long as the sub is in the back of the car, it will be loudest there. This is because the longer bass wavelengths need "room to develop" so to speak, before they reach your ear.

However, exact placement, off glass, in corner, off back wall, etc ... is not critical.

Put them in the back. When you put a sub in the middle of the car, some of the sound travels to you while some also travels to the back. When the sound that travels back reflects and comes back to you, it's phase is usually shifted to a certain degree depending on frequency/placement, possibly causing cancelation, and therefore it doesn't sound as loud. When all the subs are in the back, all the sound originates in the back, and reaches the listener at the same time, without a major phase-shifting reflection. Also, adding another sub in a drastically different location such as you are suggesting may actually reduce how loud it sounds, due to the phase shift from different locations.

I was just thinking about this, and what It means, and I can't really make sense out of it. For example, you hear more bass if you sit in the back seat, and even more if you stick your head in the hatch area. So if the bass needs to develop, why is it louder as you sit farther back? I'm just one of those guys that thinks too much I guess...

I'm already happy with the way it sounds. I just want to feel it more. Where is the best place. Like I said, I was thinking behind my seat. Do you feel it more if it is back or the front??

 

Hey mike, I see what you are saying. Now that you said that, I have a new idea. Right now the 2 mtx subs and the amp are sitting on a board that sits across the back where the two ledges are Of course the subs are in sealed boxes. Would it sound good if I put the 10" I'm getting underneath those in a sealed box. Would that interupt with the 2 mtx subs?? And if its alright, Which way should I point the sub.( to the front, back, down, straight up). Remeber I don't want the sub for the sound, I want it for the feel.
