dimm size, what cd/radio would be a perfect match
dimm size, what cd/radio would be a perfect match
Alright, so GM tends to use the 1 and 1/2 dimm size radios. I was in Best buy and noticed a Pioneer Radio that fits GM cars. I am looking for something that will match the cars interior's stock look but still be just as good as a new cd/radio. Any suggestions for the 1 1/2 dimm size? Anyone have them, or have most opped to simply stick in the abs plastic faceplate?

It's doubtful that the newer GM radio would work with your steering wheel controls without some sort of logic modification.
Another idea is to flush-mount a single DIN radio into the location. To me this looks a lot better than the 1.5 DIN decks that don't match the appearance of our cars. On the Camaro this is fairly easy, but it's a major PIA on the Firebirds due to depth issues.

personally i think the 1.5 din look smooth as a motha. the interior dash color in my car is an orangish red color. so i bought a pioneer deh-40dh it matches perfect! i mite be able to get you another one if interested. they're hard to find it was made in 1995 it has 5 different moving displays that are really neat.
Honestly from experiance, about the only 1 1/2 din head unit that will blend with the factory dash is a GM Delco unit. As Jim said, it most likely will not work with your factory steering wheel controls...some functions may, some may not.
The newer Delco's are actually respectable source units and can be used with a high quality LOC (line output converter) to run an amplified system and most people would be very supprised at the results.
Otherwise, the best look would be to flush a single din unit with a custom mounting kit as previously mentioned. This usually only requires removing the bracing that is behind the factory radio in the radio box and taking a Metra GM kit and creating a new face plate for it out of ABS, Plexi, Steel, or whatever your prefered material is to sit flush with the face for a clean look.

Not forget Alpine, I love mine. The alt. color of the red "chicklets" matches the TA dash perfectly.
