Head unit cutting power to amp?
Head unit cutting power to amp?
sometimes when i'm cruisin with my system on, all of the sudden the subs will turn off. Sometimes it only lasts for a couple seconds and other times i have to turn the head unit off and then back on. Could this be a wiring problem? The speakers still play, there is just nothing coming out of the subs. This is a problem I had a little trouble with my previous head unit. If it is a wiring problem, what wires should I check? Thanks
I'm no expert, but I think the amp IS cutting off the power to the subs. My amp has this "protection" function. Whenever its putting too much power into the subs (like when you crank it up real high) it will cut out to protect them. It happens to me every once and awhile too, just gotta turn it down a notch.
well that makes sense man, but at the same time it pisses me off. It happens at a really low volume. HHMmm, looks like im gonna see if i can't tinker with it. thanks for the help.

When the subs cut out, feel the amp.. if its really hot then it could be a thermal trip. It could also be a bad connection and a vibration could be setting it off... .but then again if you cycle the head unit... Hmmm.
