Amp with a stock delco unit?
Hey guys, I have a stock delco unit in my firebird ( Type wiht the EQ ) can I put an amp on it? I was thinking run the wires for the rear speakers to my 400 watt amp ( 4 channels ) then run an external cross over, the kind that have the terminals for the 6x9's and the other terminal for subs. that way I could power my 2 10's ( 300 watts each ) and power my 6x9's ( 600 watts each )Can I do this? or should I look for a used pioneer unit with the preouts? I cant buy a new one right now or else I would and it would bte GM fit one, I hate the looks of the regular players in our cars, with the big ugly install kit yuck. but If I can get a used one for cheap I will use it
Yes you can buy line input converters just about anywhere...
Obviously theres gonna be more hiss and less quality coming from the speakers, but its still possible to have a decent sounding system like that...
(then when you DO upgrade to a real headset, you'll enjoy it even more from the better sound quality you get from your existing components)
however 80%+ of the people are going to tell you to go buy the headset now..

You wont get ant hiss if you get a decent down converter, not one from radio shack. But running it that way gets you about .5 volts line out. Where a good headunit will give you 2-4volts = better sound quaility to amp.
