Convertible Speakers

I have a 91' Rs convertible. It is time for some new back speakers. I haven't actually taken the rear panels off, but I've heard and it looks like the speakers are 4x6's in back. I was wondering if anyone has installed larger speakers without hacking up the panels or causing to many headaches. I was eyeing some 6.5" Sony Xplods for back their. Will this work? Also, Who makes custom fit kick panels with speaker provisions?

The rear speakers in the convertible are 6.5" round.

I'm not sure if the X-Plods will fit...I put a set of Pioneer 3-ways in there but had to cannibalize some parts off the factory speaker to make it fit properly. There isn't much room, so depth is very important as well as how far out the tweeter sticks.

good luck...

Hacking up the stock 6.5s is no problem for me, the stupid things barely work. I have the bias almost 100% rear speaker and they hardly do anything. Thanks for the info.

Update: Got my rear panels off, now I'm mad . It seems some previous moron..er, owner yanked my stock speakers and brackets and screwed a set of really crappy Kenwood speakers in their place, I mean screwed them into the back of the panels! I guess I should be glad he didn't go all the way through. Looks I'm stuck makin' some new brackets, unless some speakers have ones that will work on them. I think I'll go with the 3-way 6.5" Pioneers.
