Alternator / Battery opinions - Please Help!

Hey everyone,

Got two questions. The car died the other day while driving home I’m getting tired of sears diehard batteries. When they die they die. I’ve been through 3 of them now. I’ve been searching the archives and have seen many posts about batteries and Alternators. Well I’m in the market to replace both. I’ve read that a lot of you suggest the yellow or red optima battery as a replacement. I’ve also read different opinions about both.

Question 1.
Which battery would you recommend (part number) and why?

I’ve read a lot of post about Alternators too. Most suggest Stinger, Phoenix Gold and PowerMaster.

Question 2.
Which Alternator would you recommend (part number) and why?

I would like to get something reliable that will work with the rest on the stock accessories and not cause any power problems. The car is an 88GTA 350 all power with digital dash. I also have an aftermarket sound system. I’ve never added up the watts but can’t believe that it’s greater than 600 watts total. I’ve received the latest edition of the summit catalog and they have a Powermaster alternator for the GM TPI rated at 140amps. What’s your opinion on this brand?

Thanks for any suggestions and help.
Chuck

well first, if u have a system with 600watts, u should go with the optima yellow top, unless u wanna have 2 batteries, but that will end up costing u more, cause u have to install voltage regulators. get an alternator that has at least 100amps, the more the better especially for a car like yours, powermaster is prolly a good brand, i was gonna get one of them for my car but, my motor blew so....but i will have it goin in a week or 2
