why does my cd player skip so much. please help!!!
ok besides the fact that the roads i drive on suck and it is common for a cd player to skip on a bad bump, but mine skips for every single pebble i run over it gets really monotonus after a while is there a solution like some foam to put around the player to catch some of the vibration i recieve or shoud i just buy a new deck and forget about it
what type of deck is it? and is it mounted properly to where it is held in securely (it doesnt wobble when you drive and such). it could just be a dirty lense, may want to check that before you go through the expenses of buying a new deck
Does the player skip when you're not driving? If no, then it's probably a poor installation (quite common). Try using a backstrap to secure the back of the HU and make sure the front is nice and tight.
If it's doing it weather you stopping or goin try buying a cleaning CD and stick it in the CD Player, or check your CDs maybe there scrathed... If its just doing it while your driving... try what the others have said and check the wiring harness and wires.. and mostly the ground wire...and make sure that the CD player is in place firmly...

as far as the ground goes i never grounded anything because the ground was in the harness, however i do have extra grounds coming of the unit.
the skipping got worse since last week so maybe it is a dirty lense.
and what is a backstrap and where can i get one

A backstrap is a generic strip of metal that has holes in it. They are sometime included when you buy a new HU or you could make one or you could make something that does the same thing. Basically the backstrap bolts to the car and bolts to the back of the radio to keep it from moving around. Many people mount HU's only from the front (due to newer HU coming with a "cage" that the HU conviently slips into & out of). The problem is that the back of the HU can bounce up & down substantially and it's hard to tell that this is actually happening by just looking at the front. Many factory radios are mounted with a custom "backstrap" device. Basically what you need to do is secure the BACK of the HU so it can't move around. This can solve many peoples skipping problems provided the HU is in good working condition.

If the head unit is resting on the body metal then you'll get skipping real bad. Make sure you have something under it so it doesn't touch metal to metal. Also double check to make sure it's secure. Sounds like a bad head unit, not a ground problem.
