REBUILD KIT CAME WITH 2 BASE GASKETS,
ONE IS 1/4 INCH THICK OPEN IN THE MIDDLE
AND THE OTHER IS 1/16 INCH THICK AND SECTIONED OFF IN THE MIDDLE FOR THE PRI. AND SEC. PORTS
WHICH ONE SHOULD BE USED ???

In general, when doing a carb kit, use the piece that looks like the one you took off.
Personally, I like that thick one.

well with the thin one it is a direct drop right in to the correct port,
as for the thick gasket it would cross mix and the side with higher vaccum would run more powerful then the other
i am seeing the whole idea wrong or am i just nuts ?

The thick, open gasket actually helps even the two banks out. Its main advantage is better heat isolation between manifold & carb.
You didn't say which type is currently being used, but the thick is the most common I've seen.
