Saturated Float on QJet?
My Camaro's 305 engine won't idle properly when I come to a hard stop. If I come to a slower stop then the car will idle properly in gear, usually at around 600 rpm. But if I brake somewhat quickly, the engine will almost stall when I am finally stopped, dropping to around 300 rpm before finally burbling back.
Does this sound like the float in my QJet is saturated--waterlogged with gas--and thus under negative Gs, as in braking, the float is dropping further than it should and starving the engine for fuel?
This seems like the only theory that fits the symptoms.

The only way to tell is to take the top off and check the float. Put it is a gas safe cup and keep it under gas. Check it after a while. If it floats then no problems. Have you looked at your vacaum line coming off of your brake booster?? If both check good, I would buy the rebuild kit it is about $11-15 last I checked and rebuild the carb. New floats aren't bad either. But I would get the metal ones, not factory ones.

Thanks for the reply!
We took the carb apart and everything "looked" good but obviously wasn't. We stuck on a rebuilt and it leaked from a crack in the bowl. Off with that and now I have an Edelbrock 1406 on it until he can rebuild another QJet. The Edelbrock is interesting and I'll have to drive it some more to see whether I like it. But I already miss those massive secondaires on the QJet

I traded mine in for a holley, but I must say I miss the sound of the back barrels opening up. Good luck getting a new carb, back in Pa, I have extra parts I got at a junk yard. I found it easy to mod.
