choke light on LG4

choke light on LG4
today the choke light came on in my 86 iroc. i read the owner's manual and it said nothing about what it means. also, the car seems to be idling higher than it normally does. my normal idle is around 650 in park and my car is idling between 800 and 1150 rpm's. what odes the light mean and what's with the high idle??

The "Choke" light is also the alternator light... I'd get out and see if I still had an alternator belt if I was you...

good call with the alternator. it was bad. i went out today and replaced it with a remanufactured one. thanks for the info!!!
