edelbrock secondary flap

edelbrock secondary flap
Could anyone tell me what the purpose of the two "flaps" above the secondary blades are on a 750 edelbrock carb. They dont move and it looks like they would cause alot of resriction, and the open area around the secondary seems to have a puddle of feul in it. i checked out another carb of the same model an it has the puddle as well? that doesnt seem right to me? and answers?

uh yes they do move.. its an airvalve. If you just slammed on the throttle without the airvalve there would be such a rush of air that there would be virtually no airspeed through the carb and youd lose all vacuum signal. The car would most likely stall or bog big time. The airvalve prevents this.. when you stab the throttle the only place air can pass is through the primaries to keep the airspeed through the boost venturi up. When there is enough vacuum signal to ensure the secondary boosters will flow fuel the airvalve opens.. its weighted such that it does so at just the right moment.. or close enough for most applications im sure there are different airvalves you can use if you get crazy with it.
Im not sure what you mean by the "puddle of fuel" where exactly are you looking?
You really need to go to www.edelbrock.com and read the edelbrock performer carb tuning guide. It answers all of your questions and more. I cant believe how many people onthis board have never read their own carb manual its no rocket science

the "puddle" is around the air inlet where the weight for the air valve is. look at the two air inlets, there is a deep recess to the left and right of them. that is where the fuel is puddling. a friend of mines carb does the same thing, i guess its just the design.
i have no manual for the carb i got it with the motor.
ive always used holley, this is my first edelbrock so the air valve looked odd to me. i understand that edelbrock put it there for a reason, i just was curious to find out. thanks for the link

couldnt find anything
i have a guess or two
one is that maybe reversion over a sustained amount of time caused fuel to puddle in there.. unlikely
two, you have an an internal fuel leak. Im thinking the airhorn gasket.. perhaps you ran too much fuel pressure and the float bowls overfilled and leaked past the gaskets inside
thats all i have..
