secondaries question

i dont know much about carbs but i am beginning to learn little by little. i have a 600 edelbrock with electric choke on my 305 and i was wondering if there was a way to drive with all 4 barrels open all the time? would that help performance? or at least to where they open at say half throttle? any help is appreciated. also i think my choke is disfunctional as a guy at my local performance shop told me that the bar that turns the flapper is upside down and the little deal that turns the choke open and closed isnt hitting what it should. i wish i had some pics to help explain.

Having the secondaries open earlier will hurt performance. Why half throttle--if you want the power push the throttle all the way open. All 4 barrels open all the time is full throttle(gas pedal to the floor)--might be difficult to drive in traffic Have that guy that looked at the choke fix it--watch him to see what he did.

well my uncle taught me a little trick to get the secondarys to open faster. its hard to explain but bear with me. first off there is the throttle linkage that moves back and forth on the carb. then there is the little part. the big part of the linkage hits the little part that opens the secondarys. are ya wth me? k. what you can do to make the secondarys open faster is that you can A.) wrap a long thin peice of wire around the part that opens the secondary(the part i was refeering to as teh little part) or B.) you can bend the little metal part(the one that opens the secondarys agian) towards the big part. so basicaly make it to where the big part of teh throttle linkage on the carb hits the linkage to open teh secondarys quiker. im sorry about the wording but its realy hard to explain wihtout a carb right here and showing u personaly. if anyone knows what im talking about and thinks they can word it better then go ahead my wording is horrible.

Yes I know what you are talking about, but kicking in at a lesser throttle position does nothing for WOT performance. You also run the risk of the throttle blades opening too far(over center) hurting performance. If you want to drive using the secondaries, just push the throttle a little further.
