what's up, i know this has probably been answered countless times...but i need new opinions, for a basically stock L69 what would be the best carb and intake combo? for performance, not mileage...thanks!

Well I don't know what the best is but a Performer RPM, Holley 600 vac sec and headers put my 84 TA L69 into the 14.7@94 region.

I think a 600 Holley carb like stated is good ,but I would go with a edelbrock performer instead of the edelbrock rpm.

thanks, that was gonna be my first choice...but with a lot of conflicting posts on holley vs. edelbrock vs. demon i'm getting a little confused, i know a little, not enough apparently or i wouldn't be asking. but it'd be great if i got some opinions off you guys before i order the stuff...bare with me if any of these wouldn't even work, i'm still learning sorry but here are the carb choices 1)holley 600cfm double pumper 2)holley 600cfm 4150 hp pro series 3)edelbrock 1405 or 1406(how would i benefit from an electric?) 4)Road DeMon 625cfm electric choke 5)Speed DeMon 650cfm i'm hearing great things about demon, if you guys know which demon would be best for me that would probably be my final choice...as for the intake, is there any big difference between the brands, holley, weiland, edelbrock?? and the performer RPM would be a little to much for an L69 i guess? but i was told that the regular performer was only a little better than stock, so i don't know...if anyone could answer all my questions you'd seriously kick a$s! like i said i don't wanna order the wrong products...thanks a lot!

I say go with the performer RPM or Weiand Stealth only if you ever plan to build a bigger motor (350+ cubic inches) that way you wont have to buy another intake when the time comes. If you plan on staying 305 forever get the Performer.I have a Demon on my car and have no complaints.A friend of mine just bought the 625 Road Demon for his T/A and loves it,very easy to tune.So i would recommend the Demon for a carb.Again if you ever plan to upgrade motors , go with a 650 Speed Demon, vacuum for auto or mechanicals secondaries for stick.Good luck,
John

Just remember that when you yank the computer controlled QJet you ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE THE DISTRIBUTOR WITH A NON-COMPUTER CONTROLLED UNIT! The ECM will throw a fit when it doesn't see the computer controlled distributor anymore, it will throw a check engine light, go into "limp home" mode and kill your advance curve. A Summit performance HEI distributor would fit the bill nicely for under $200. Or you could pick up a complete junkyard HEI distributor for $25 and rebuild the advance mechanisms for considerably less money but more effort.

Failure to do both the carb and distributor at the same time will result in LESS performance regardless of which carb you put on there.

thanks guys, i really do want a demon though, and i am planning on getting a 350 or maybe even a 383 later on...so either the weiland stealth or the performer RPM for the intake, and either a holley, or a speeddeMon 650 mechanical cause it's a 5 speed, and i do know about the distributor so i won't make that mistake, but thanks for telling me just in case! anymore opinions guys??? thanks a lot

Since this is just "opinions", the best carb for an L69 is a CC q-jet.

Perhaps do something else when the 355 or 383 goes in, but what will work best for either of them will not be "best performance" on the L69.

On the topic of "which carb is best" I say buy the one that most of the people around you (friends, speed shops etc) are familiar with. There is nothing like having a pool of information available to you when you strike a problem or want to fine tune your setup.

i don't really like the cc qjet..i wanna clean up a little bit, getting rid of the emissions and all the hoses and stuff will really look better in my opinion, and i'm sure i'll at least break even performance wise or do even better. but thanks for the advice five7. if anyone else has any thoughts on this, please reply! thanks a lot

Well, this is a similar suggestion, there is just about nothing wrong with a Quadrajet... I would suggest putting a non-CC Q-jet on since you can still hook up the charcoal canister... that way you don't get high off of the gas fumes every time you're sitting at a light or when you first sit down in the car. You can get a non CC Q-jet in good condition for 25 bucks then do a rebuild on it... If you ever go to that 350 or 383, you'll probably want 700 CFM... I say go with a performer or stealth intake for starters and replace the carb if its giving you trouble... dropping the computer will give you more control over the engine, just remember to pull out the engine light (I hate that thing!).
