Good for a street car,I had one on my Z with my old 350,very reliable carb. When i built my new motor I went with a Speed Demon for more tunability and airflow. Not so much daily driven anymore so I went with more of a race carb.

Well everyone knows I'm not fond of them.
Awhile ago I posted some dyno results if you want more objective data.

They are mainly "show" carburators. People who like the detailed engines like them and they are supposed to be more reliable(?) than holley's. But for staight performance, I would stick with a Holley

------------------
1989 Camaro RS, 355 engine, 4 bolt block, 11.5:1 compression, 305 heads--ported, polished, milled, 3-angle valve job, 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves, Edelbrock rpm valve springs, 1.5 rockers--, Keith Black pistons, solid lifter cam, Edelbrock RPM intake, 750 cfm Holley, Holley Red electric fuel pump, MSD distributor, Turbo 350 w/B&M Shift kit, 3.73 Richmond Gears, Hooker headers, Flowmaster exhaust

My Pontiac's (my babies)
1972 Pontiac LeMans, 2 Door, red with tan top, 350 V-8, Edelbrock Perf. Intake, Rochester Carb, Turbo 350 trans with B&M shift kit, Dual Exhaust

New Addition (Don't tell my girlfriend!! [she found out...whoops]) 1968 Pontiac GTO, Rust free body, White with Black Interior, Original 4-Speed Car, 400 V-8 engine, Hideaway Headlights, Positraction Rearend

i dont...i think holley's are finicky turds...i saw a few cars at my track catch fire and these guys know what they are doing with there cars......for exmaple...a 69 camaro running 8.90s ....so i can't say they dont know there stuff...i have never had a problem, before i got this motor it was in a 57 chevy, a 650dp on it and it would bog down and need tuning all the time....i don't like them...i think they are junk

i have one on my 400, i love these carbs, they and an absoutle breeze to tune and work with. a holley will give you more all out power, but for an all around car the edelbrock is fantastic

The edelbrock/carter carbs are very good carbs for everyday driving. However, the power just isn't there. I've seen people gain .5 or so switching to a Holley. Just depends on what you want. I get 20+ mpg with my Carter 625. You just can't get that with a Holley. The Edelbrock/Carter carbs are very tuning friendly, and once you get them dialed in they are set.

My 600 cfm performer carb starts every morning in 20* or so weather without any gas. Easy to tune, 16 mpg with 350 (7 better than my dad's 2001 Expitdition!), never had any problem, four-barral always there and ready to engage. Mine has caused me no ploblems being a daily driver/ weekend racer.

The edelbrock carbs are great just the same as a holley i had a holley 750 on my camaro just for fun i put a edelbrock on it to see what it would do well out of the box it seemed to work great but slowed me down 3 tenths in the quarter. well, i had tuned my holley so i figured maybe i will try to tune this one too.. mmmmmm sad thing happened i ran 1 tenth faster then i ever ran on my holley and it was so freakin easy to tune i never even had to take the carb of my motor. I,m still running the edelbrock today and flashin my lights even more ;-] I do love holley carbs but if you have a street car you are better off with the edelbrock its cheaper & alot easier to tune. my car runs 12.7 all day in vegas with street tires full exhaust, overdrive tranny and 3.42 gears im sure if i went to cali or something i can go alot faster, so you can see these carbs can go fast if you just take the time to tune them. some guys will say there no good?? I'm going to have to say they don't know how to tune them or have never used them.
good luck

you ain't fast enough to flash on this fooooolll

I don't care for edelbrock anymore but they are descent carbs. As far as fuel economy I get better economy with a vac sec holley. As a standard a vac secondary carb will get better economy than a mec secondary. The secondary open up on an edelbrock in relation to throttle position, on a holley they open depending on vacuum. It would be safe to say that at 75mph an edelbrock will have the back barrels open wasting fuel. A 600cfm holley is just as east to tune as any edelbrock and offers more tunability. What people get stuck on is the old holley without power valve blowout protection. If you run one of the old carbs on a cold engine and decide to stick your foot in it and it backfires because its cold "boom" power valve goes and you have a chance for a fire.

That's why holleys got a bad name. This problem has been fixed. The only difference in setting a holley up is the float adjustments but they are easy to adjust and much better than edelbrocks floats because they have external adjustments. Why are these better? You can set the floats to accommodate the fuel pump. With an edelbrock the only way to know if the floats are not adjusted properly is took look for a lean spot in the power or a very strong gas smell.
Now moving up the CFM ladder, 750 holley. The difference in the higher cfm carbs is that they have 2 adjustable metering blocks, 2 A/F for the primaries and 2 for the secondary a total of 4. This feature allows the user to trim the A/F mix for cruising or wide-open power with the turn on a screw. How easy is that? With an edelbrock your going to have to take the top off and play with jets all day long to find the correct secondary setup, a cheap jet kit is $45 and you probably wont find the correct size jet in the kit for your carb, the kits suck! With a holley you're going to have a better chance of tuning the secondary properly with the A/F mixture.

I have run edelbrocks and holleys and I find that holleys are all out better carbs. To answer you question, How runs edelbrocks? They run fine but holleys are better all around.
