hood clearance

Hey, has anyone here squeezed a victor junior under a stock Iroc hood? Mine is a 89 model if it makes a difference. I'm running TFS 23 degree heads. Thanks!

Victor Jr.

I'm not sure, but I think the tallest one you can get under a stock hood is a Performer RPM. I think a Victor Jr. is like 1/2" higher than the RPM. Good excuse to get a cowl hood .

I have a 82 with a Performer RPM, 750 AFB, 1 1/4 drop base, and a 4" K&N - and hell no it won't fit.

But if you mess around with a drop base, & air cleaner height you might get it to fit.
Don't go to small or you'll smother it. I seen people chop off the choke tower to get better flow into a drop base & like a 2" filter. Anyway you see it you'll need a certain about of head room above the carb, so start measuring.

Good Luck,

Ron

I have the same Edelbrock air cleaner on a Holley street Dominator which is a high rise dual plane with an Edelbrock 750 and it fits just barely.

I have the Edelbrock performer, 1" carb spacer and 2" open element air cleaner-she hits the hood. It will latch but it hits.

I just put a rpm intake sa 670 carb 2.25 filter and it wont fit under my stock 82 z28 hood. Good reason to get a cowl induction hood.

I have an '82 z28 hood and it doesn't touch my vortec rpm manifold and 750 holley. I did however mill off the choke horn so I could fit a 2" air filter and drop base. Before that it still closed but it touched.

Have 85 Z28 with 350, Performer RPM, 750 Cfm Edelbrock. Then bought a cheap air cleaner from Jegs. Chome for $40 / 14"X3".
Fits pretty good with about 2" of clearance.

I've got a TA -84 with the Bulge hood and I can fit the following under it:

Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock Performer Series 600 CFM carb and a 3" open air Mr Gasket drop base air-cleaner.

It was so tight that I had to remove all the plastic stuff under the bulge, now I got almost 1/4" clearance between the hood and air-filter.

I attach a picture so you can see exactly how low the carb is sitting. I haven't got the Mr Gasket air-cleaner on but you'll get the idea. I took this picture while trial fitting my turbos, hopefully that install will be ready sometime next year.
