Choke adjustment

Hi I have a non-ccqjet on my car (canada)
I have drilled the rivets and tap + bolt in the housing,
I have turn the choke a little to "lean"...

I did this because my choke took like, 25 min before it openned enough so i can kick it off, but then, never fully off , i could do it with my hands or if i shut the car (hot) wait a little and start it.

ok while i had the choke in hand i did a resistance test, i had something like 150ohm!!! then i tryed 2 other choke (at my mechanics school) 1 had 5ohm and the other 7ohm... one was on a malibu 1980 305(we have the whole engine on a bench & it's working great, choke is good on it, well act like it should).
Why 150ohm?! is this normal.

Next thing, now that i have moved the choke i little more to lean, my indash choke light WORKS!!! well it's like when i start it light 1 sec then shut off!? should it be?

Thanks

oh btw, what is a berlinetta?! is this like a special enhanced camaro? what engine should it have and what option it should have... I saw one at school, it's not in good shape but, what written berlinetta and i saw a lots of peoples here with berlenetta in sigs!

If your choke stat has 150 ohms of resistance, it is fornicated. About 6 ohms is normal. Get a new one. Put the adjustment back where it belongs and start over - never try to "tune" around a defective part. Make sure you don't use a gasket behind it, because it needs to make electrical contact to the housing.

By way of an interesting but IMHO very stupid design feature, the "Choke" light is actually the "Alternator" light. I'll leave it at that. The whole circuit is arranged such that the choke is only supplied power when the alternator is charging; that light merely indicates whether the car is attempting to send 12V to the choke, and has nothing whatsoever to do with whether the choke is actually working or not.

Berlinetta was a trim option group type of model. No performance options, soft suspension usually, all manner of dress-up and comfort type things though. They were very popular with young females at the time (as their own cars, I know what you're thinking!). Most were 6-cyl cars, the most engine you could get in one was a LG4. They were available in some years with a cool digital dash, and an unusual stereo for the time, and some different wheels.

thanks, today i tested an other choke from school on my car, it worked much better, it opened in 2 mins fully
I'll look at gm and auto parts for my choke element.
It should be better on gas now :P my plugs had so much carbon and the car diesel some time when turned off.

also thanx for the berlinetta info.
