choke light

Question? I have an 87 T/A. Is there another location for the choke heater relay. I looked in the convienence center. There is a place for it, but no relay, or wiring to the location.

-The choke light remains on, car running.
-Alternator was changed and is working.
-There is 16v at choke stat.
-Choke is working, but slowly.
-Battery is new.

Are you checking for the choke voltage with the wire connected? That's the only way it has meaning. Is the choke stat installed directly into the housing, with no gasket? It must be, because that's how the choke stat gets grounded. If all that is as it should be, then however slowly or quickly it works, it's the right speed.

choke

If it open too slowly for your liking, check the resistance of the choke... must be close to 5 ohms... the higher the longer it will take to open.

Choke light

OK, Thanks folks for all the help. Your expert advise helped me solve the choke light riddle. After Checking the c/h fan fuse, testing the Alternator , Replacing the electric choke, replacing the choke heater relay, the light still remained ON. There was on thing however that one of you mentioned to check and that was the oil pressure switch. I removed the conection and reconnected it on a hunch. Apparently, it was loose and this turned the light out. How simple! but thats all it takes. Keep up the great help. Hope this helps one of you with the same problem..bb
