Choke light stays on flashes and makes a noise and wont dissingage also it idles and really crazy rpms (1100ish) and runs really crappy when it first starts and starts hard my dad is in deniale about it being the alternater cuase the meter says 12-13 volts what do you guys think? and could it be something else?

 

It's the alternator. I idle it should have 13.5-14 volts, give or take a little. If you are showing 12-13 the alternator is doing very little or none at idle. Once you get the rpms up a little bit is starts charging--that's why the battery isn't going dead. Consider yourself lucky, the alternator is warning you before it quits. If you want to learn something, get yourself a rebuild kit and rebuild it yourself--they are pretty simple.

 

thanks but my dads not too happy with that, but thats life (hes at that phase of his life where he thinks he knows all and sees all) but thanks again how much would u say an alternater rebuild kit would cost??

 

welps u where right its offical the time of death for the alternator was 7:30 pm (my time) on oct 28 he check engine light came on and my volts droped from 13.5-14 to 12 volts (battery ugh! ) and the funny part is my dads still in denial about it and says that its not whats causing the problem with the lights (now 2 my choke light and my check engine light!) some one please smack him for me it would be appriciated
