ok, Not so sure if its the choke, went to start it up, held the pedal down and let the engine heat up. looking at the carb with the air filter visable allowed me to see that soo much gas was going in that it was spewing it up out of the top of it and getting all over the place, including the filter. It was shooting it up a good 2-3 inches above the carb.
Could it just mean that I need to re allign the float?

More likely that the needle/seat is contaminated.

Either way, the carb comes apart.

So just take it apart, re-put everything together, make sure nothing is blocking the needle from closing of gas supply, and replace the air filter and I should be good to go?

thanks again for help

I have this problem too. The choke is loose, meaning that it rotates freely within the housing. So step #1 is drill out the three rivets and install screws. Step #2 is figure out how to adjust it properly.
Are the needle and seat included in a rebuild kit?
My carb spews fuel sometimes too. And it idles crummy even after it warms up. Oh, and the plugs I put in two weeks ago with the new oxygen sensor are already fouled. Is this a needle and seat problem? What else should I look at?
Thanks,
Homer

with my rebuild kit from advanced auto parts it had the screws and everything, so the choke is actually ok, there was a small pieces of gunk keeping the needle from shutting off the gas supply, then causing the gas to never get shut off. after cleaning that out gas is able to shut off when it has enough heh
